Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"This book is masterful in many respects, but mostly in its ability to present information in a way that makes learning enjoyable. It does not go into micro detail on all of the nervous system diseases, but serves as a good review. Taken together, the two volumes would be a good addition to the bookshelf of any neurologist, healthcare professional, or medical student."-Andrea Harriott, MD, PhD(Mayo Clinic Florida) Doody Review: 86/100
Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Andrea M Harriott, M.D., Ph.D.(Mayo Clinic Florida)
Description: This is a unique, concise, informative, and illustrative reference on nervous system disorders of the brain with a compilation of paintings prepared by Frank H. Netter, MD.
Purpose: It depicts the basic physiology of the central nervous system and the immunohistochemistry and pathophysiology of various disease states in a way that makes pattern recognition and learning enjoyable.
Audience: It is appropriate for a wide-ranging audience, including medical students, other health practitioners, and (as a reference) general neurologists
Features: The elegance of this book lies in its ability to take advantage of visual and text-based learning to impart fundamental information about neurophysiology and central nervous system disorders. The material is presented in two-volumes, which has the advantage of expanding some of the concepts covered in this volume. In keeping with the Netter tradition, the artwork is masterful. The book provides a comprehensive view of the central nervous system and covers a wide range of topics, from development, psychiatry, and epilepsy to infectious, autoimmune, and vascular diseases of the brain. The illustrations make the concepts of disease recognition and details of anatomy and physiology of the nervous system come to life. In so doing, the concepts are easy to learn and retain. The organization of the book makes it easy to navigate and the index is helpful.
Assessment: This book is masterful in many respects, but mostly in its ability to present information in a way that makes learning enjoyable. It does not go into micro detail on all of the nervous system diseases, but serves as a good review. Taken together, the two volumes would be a good addition to the bookshelf of any neurologist, healthcare professional, or medical student.
