TheOnly Authoritative, Comprehensive, Up-to-Date Guide to Glycemic Index Values—

A Companion to the New York Times Bestseller The New Glucose Revolution

The glycemic index (GI)—an easy-to-understand measure of how different foods affect our blood glucose levels—is revolutionizing the way we eat. Now medical experts and health authorities around the world advocate using GI values in making daily food decisions—so it’s never been more important to understand how to choose and benefit from low-GI foods.

Now The New Glucose Revolution Complete Guide to Glycemic Index Values presents the most complete, authoritative, and up-to-the-minute GI values for hundreds of foods and beverages. Included are three easy-to-read tables, presenting GI values in an A to Z listing, a comprehensive listing by food categories, and a handy, at-a-glance table sorted according to low, intermediate and high GI values.

Each entry in every table also specifies serving size, net carbohydrate per serving, and the glycemic load, which is clearly explained. Also included in the book are two GI Food Pyramids, specially created by the authors, to help guide you to appropriate daily food choices.

With this book it’s now easier than ever to ascertain a food’s GI value—whether you’re grocery shopping, planning tonight’s dinner or tomorrow’s breakfast, eating out, or meeting with your nutritionist or dietitian.

About the Author:

Jennie Brand-Miller, Ph.D., and Kaye Foster-Powell, M. Nutr. & Diet., are the authors of the best-selling Glucose Revolution series of books. Johanna Burani, M.S., R.D., is co-author of The Glucose Revolution Life Plan and author of Good Carbs, Bad Carbs. Susanna Holt, Ph.D., works closely with Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller as the Research Manager of Sydney University’s Glycemic Index Research Service (SUGiRS). She is also a qualified dietitian and nutrition consultant.

This book is useless in the USA!!!!

The 'complete guide' would probably be quite comprehensive if you live in Australia or Canada....however, for individuals living in the USA, the guide provides approximately 13 pages of information. The rest of the food guide lists are 99% non-USA products. Additionally, except for pages 19 thru 33 portions are listed in metric. I even searched just for similar food products, but found (by comparing the book to our products at the grocery store) that the preparation for US products is different than for other countries b/c information, such as grams of carbohydrate per serving, are substantially different. For example, Cranberry Juice...has different glycemic ratings between the US product, and that produced for Australia (this is one of the very few products for which the guide provides the information for the US product and that for other countries). Even at only $6, this book is a waste of your time & money.
