Overview

An updated version of a backlist best-seller, The New Smart Approach to® Kids' Rooms offers sensible advice to parents who need help decorating and furnishing their children's rooms. The book presents hundreds of ideas for solving the issues of working with space and color, developing a budget, and selecting age-appropriate design themes. It provides sensible advice for buying a mattress, selecting furniture, and choosing window treatments and flooring. In addition, there are lots of ideas for organizing storage, play, work, and sleep areas, as well as how to create a room that will be shared by two. Individual, age-specific chapters focus on the needs of newborns, toddlers, young school-age children, and teenagers. 336 lavish color photographs accompany lots of "Smart Steps" and "Smart Tips" throughout the book.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Connelly (What's in Style: Window Treatments) has updated this best-selling guide on designing and furnishing rooms for children of all ages, making it even more comprehensive. As with most DIY decorating guides, this one covers the use of color, furniture selection and layout, and material choices for walls, windows, and flooring. But Connelly goes one step further, addressing how to incorporate the child's interests and safety. Each chapter concludes with a gallery of captioned photographs that highlight the advice given in the text. Especially useful is the chapter on designing for children with special needs; there is also a resource guide and a section devoted to bathrooms for children. With its practical advice and variety of decorating styles, this book would be a wise purchase for all public libraries. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
