Set far in the future, after a terrible war. The United States is just a legend but now The Empire of the North is the most powerful country. A young noble gets caught up with forces that he doesn't know anything about. He start his journey in the most horrible way but grows with each experience..
It seems this is a youth novel, learning about slavery, indenture servants, different cultures, etc.. The background is extremely intriguing but not enough of it. Still Brendan Dubois is a superb storyteller. A story that would fit at night being told around a fire. His characters slowly get under your skin, and you will be reading as fast as you can to find out what happens next. Ready to read the next one.
