A different approach than most books

I've read procrastination books in the past that labeled the practice merely a bad habit you need to shame or bully yourself out of. This book looks deeper into the psychological reasons behind why you avoid tasks- much of the time it's a fear of failure, not laziness. Realizing this has helped me "get going" on tasks and handle the challenges as they come.

Lots of prose for a few ideas

**Note: my book says it was published in 2007, but the cover looks different than the one featured here**

First off, for anyone that has read a book or two about procrastination and its underlying causes, the first half of the book shouldn't come as much of a surprise. What may come as a surprise, however, is how many times Fiore can repeat the same idea, over and over again. The first half of the book I found myself thinking, "okay, I get it. Please don't remind me again." I was also irked by gimmicky phrases like "the reverse calendar" and the "unschedule," but that may just be me.

There are a couple of ideas that he proposes that I thought were worth considering, though -- like focusing on starting instead of finishing and scheduling in time for fun and only writing in time actually spent doing 30 minutes of quality work (instead of feeling guilty for scheduling in "work time" and not doing it). He also suggests freeing yourself from tasks that you don't want/will not do: instead of having them loom in the back of your mind, consciously choose not to do them.

So, if you're looking for a book with a couple new tricks (not the standard "prioritize, and do what's most important first"), you may want to give this book a try. Just be prepared for lots of repetition and catchphrases along the way.

If Procrastinate Buy this Book Now!

Great resource for those of us who are perennial procrastinators. Understands that procrastination is a symptom and helps you address the cause to cure the disease. The most insightful, effective book I've ever read on resolving the delaying game. Highly recommended.

Don't Leave This Book in a Used Book Store

One of the clearest presentations about the procrastination and its roots in our personal fear of failure or rejection. Examples of how to change our self-talk and a new plan called the 'unschedule' allow a person to start enjoying positive work and guilt-free play.
