Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Conservative readers needing sound bites for their next conversation with a liberal co-worker may find this book useful. Attorney Mark W. Smith's book provides pithy rebuttals to his perception of liberal positions (called "liberal lunacy" throughout) on topics like the war in Iraq, abortion rights, affirmative action, and gun control. Arguments are offered in clear, brief paragraphs, with summaries at the end of each section. Unfortunately, many of the liberal positions are skewed ("We should welcome illegal immigrants with a blanket amnesty"; "Democracy can't succeed in Iraq"), and the arguments Smith proposes would not hold up against less extreme positions. The author cites publications by conservative authors and organizations as well as federal government web sites to document background information. A 15-page "VRWC Action Kit" provides information on conservative movement leaders, conservative media outlets, think tanks, and web sites, as well as an extensive list of books. The strong bias and strident tone may appeal to committed conservatives. An optional choice for public libraries. Jill Ortner, SUNY at Buffalo Libs. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

    Excellent, common-sense approach to government

Mark Smith has indeed written a work that is worthy of the highest praise. In an easy-to-read, short paragraph form, Smith exposes the flawed logic and hopeless programs of the American Left. This book is rife with documented facts and common sense political solutions. A must-read for any American conservative concerned about the future of the Republic.

    Great sourcebook for Republicans

Republicans like me will love this book. It is very 'to the point', and provides you with a lot of points to debate leftists with. If you believe the following, this book will annoy you: the welfare state is required, and is necessary, Democrats are as good as Republicans at keeping us safe against terrorists, the U.N. is democratic and preserves peace and human rights, the Iraq War was not necessary, Israel is the main problem in the Mid-East, gun control works, tort law 'protects the little guy', corporations are evil, Big Government works, multiculturalism works, mass immigration is good for America, the death penalty is bad, taxes should go up, and women benefit from radical feminism. Otherwise, you will enjoy this book. I found it refreshing to see a Republican book that also does not mention 'God' or religion, as I am a secular Republican. Great book !

Proof Why the 'Looney Left' is Never Right!

Mark's book is a great read. Brevity is the soul of all wit and this book details in a witty, concise fashion why conservatives believe what they do. It's a must read for everyone in this important election year...even for those on the ¿Looney Left¿ would benefit if they'd stop whining long enough to read the truth. The irony is for year's liberals¿who have been spoon fed talking points by the DNC for years¿have accused the right of being the masterminds of a grand conspiracy, but this is the first book of its kind. The truth is conservatives agree and present a united front on key issues, not because of talking points, but because they actually believe what they say and live what they believe. Mark's book shows the clear, consistent logic that permeates the conservative mindset in a format that is both informative and fun to read. Thank you Mark W. Smith!

Great Resource: Packed with Facts - Fresh and Witty

'The Official Handbook' is a great resource for conservative diehards and wannabees alike. Packed with facts, it makes the case for conservatives in such a compelling fashion that I suspect it will convert more than a few liberals to the cause. What do I like best about 'The Official Handbook'? It makes sense -- common sense -- and, for this reason, it is incredibly persuasive! The writing is fresh and witty and, when you're not nodding your head in agreement, you'll be laughing out loud. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the issues but doesn't have time to digest the top twenty-five conservative best sellers. You owe it to yourself to spend the $13 to advance your education on today's hot topics -- besides, if you don't spend it, the government will only take it from you in the form of more taxes for federally-subsidized midnight basketball programs!
