Official Scrabble players dictionary is Super

We use it for our nightly games of Scrabble as well as Upwords. We've found that it has many new words than are not in our earlier version. My husband used the word "zep", thinking it referred to a zeppelin. We learned that it is a long sandwich.

Learn the meaning of the words you use playing Scrabble

We already had a book listing acceptable Scrabble words. But on ocassion we wanted to know the meaning of these often obscure words, especially the 2 letter ones, that are seldom used in polite conversation. Our need for "meaning" reached the threshold for purchase after a long debate over the validity of the recently added 2 letter word "qi", the eastern philosopy term for the essential life force, previously spelled "chi" as in "tai chi". Having now used the book several times, it has been fascinating to learn the accepted meaning of these words.

    Scrabble Bible!

When I saw my sister using a dictionary dated 1978, I purchased the Scrabble dictionary for both of us. It's amazing the words included and are usable for this game. There are words I would not have expected and many which could assist with a winning score. The high point letters are a must read as there are a few surprise words. No one should use an outdated dictionary for this game!

    Great for Scrabble Lovers!

My husband and I kept arguing over which words were usable in a scrabble game. Now, we just look them up in the Official Scrabble Dictionary!

AGREE FOR ONCE ON WHAT DICTIONARY TO USE AND END ALL CHALLENGE DEBATES

If your family plays Scrabble, then you are familiar with the Challenge rules and how binding they are. One of the rules is that "everyone" must agree on the dictionary to use in the Challenge. Now that we have the "Official Scrabble Dictionary" to play with, we know what slang is in, what is out, what prefixes are real words, and how do you really spell that word, and on and on and on. Quit arguing! Look it up already! Look up those challenged words and expand your vocabulary when you find out they are real words, but mean something else. I'd much rather expand my vocabulary, than have useless arguments about what is or is not slang.
The book is endorsed by the National Scrabble Association and that makes it even better and is by Meerriam-Webster. How can that get any better. Everyone who buys a dictionary knows Merriam-Webster. So, as I say, end ALL debates.

The Official Scrabble Dictionary Fourth Edition is of very limited use.

With over 100,000 entries, The Official Scrabble Dictionary Fourth Edition has far too many foreign words. The type is too small for people with even slightly impaired vision to read. It is of very little use to older people wanting to use conventional English-language words and spelling. I would not recommend this dictionary to anyone not wishing to learn the terms for plants and foods in India, Spain, and many other countries, Cajun cooking, and other non-English terminology as well as modern slang and colloquialisms.

I purchased this dictionary to go along with my new Scrabble Diamond Anniversary Edition game, which is an excellent product with storage space for a scrabble dictionary. The Fourth Edition dictionary, however, at one and one-half inches thick, is at least a quarter-inch too thick to fit into the storage compartment.

I will continue to use my several decades old edition.

    The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary

This book is very useful for avid Scrabble players and for people who don't want much detail in definitions of words. but for those who love words for themselves, this book disappoints. If you ignore the rule that says only words in this dictionary count in a Scrabble game, you'll offend the game's purists but have more fun looking up words in a standard dictionary, or better yet, a number of standard and maybe not so standard dictionaries. If discussing word meanings, origins, and uses is part of the fun of a game of Scrabble for you, this is only a baby dictionary, a list with only thumbnail definitions, not a word treasure horde the way the Websters' Unabridged Dictionaries and Oxford English Dictionary function.

The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary, Fourth Edition

as a scrabble dictionary I found some actual words missing which some players say invalidate the word. Which is insane since these words are used everyday and would be found in a regular dictionary.

    Great Aid...

I highly recommend this Scrabble Dictionary to any level players of Scrabble! The dictionary has also come in handy for crossword puzzle games as well! The only drawbacks the dictionary has is it doesn't list any words possible over 7 letters, that isn't worth loosing a star over! It's truly a minimal investment for several word choices at your fingertips! So enjoy, and don't hesitate to purchase this helpful little aid for playing Scrabble! :)

    Scrabble Players Dictionary

I haven't used it much. My nook tablet app for Words With Friends does not work after an update on November 3rd. I bought this to use with that app. When I buy a new Kindle Fire, I will use it for that. I can't believe Barnes & Noble still is selling this app which does not work and the description is totally wrong... NO portrait mode, shame on Barnes &Noble. I did give 3 stars without using it.... fix WORDS WITH FRIENDS

Excellent Resource for the Scrabble Fan

The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary is a must-have for anyone who plays Scrabble on a regular basis. Handy paperback size (fits in the game box) keeps it accessible. Words are clearly organized in alphabetical order; pronunciations and definitions are included for additional illumination. A great way to figure out how to combine that odd assortment of letters!
