Part motivational book, part self-help, the latest from Keller (The Millionaire Real Estate Agent), together with Papasan (president of Rellek Publishing), vies to give us a path for achieving extraordinary results. Keller challenges the worthiness of deeply rooted notions-a balanced life, discipline, willpower, multitasking-and presents his insights with a coach's verve and goal-oriented approach. He begins by examining the attitudes and ideas that derail us. From here he moves on to show us how to become more productive; and this, he claims, relies on focus, which leads him to ask: "What's the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?" While the book does grab you by the collar, many of Keller's points are more rhetoric than argument. For example, he challenges the philosophical idea of balance and concludes that it does not exist: "It is a grand idea, but not a very practical one. Idealistic, but not realistic." Unfortunately, though, while the actual philosophical idea is about ethics, Keller is referring to work-life balance. Despite the book's appealing style and energy, more intellectual substance would have helped the overall work. 34 illus.

MUST READ!!!! I have learned how to narrow focus and put my blinders on to achieve the things that are most important to me and I am seeing my life getting bigger each day.. I love how this book talks about how success is a sequence of small steps. Lining the dominos up one at a time! Because of this book I now know what my ONE thing is that I need to do everyday that will make everything else seem easier and unnecessary! My fortress around my One thing gets stronger everyday! Thank you Gary and Jay for this amazing book!!!

It removes all the what if's or don't have enough time and shows you where to place your focus to breakthrough all those barriers. I have shared this book with so many people of all business backgrounds. This is not a real estate book, this is a life book. ENJOY!

I personally heard Gary Keller speak yesterday for nearly four hours on his new book, "The One Thing".  I was truly amazed by his enthusiasm of his message and at the rich content.   His book is so applicable for today's business person, parent or individual seeking to better themselves the lives of those around them.  I told a friend later that afternoon that Gary's information found in his new book is "worth $1,000,000 in annual income" to me!  The book is very well laid out and easy to follow.  I believe it could have a huge and very positive impact in your life!

Gary Keller is one of the most articulate writers. His in depth knowledge on how to live and grow a business is amazing. This book will help you re-structure your life so the one thing that matters most to you will happen. I have read most of his books and this is by far the best.

This is not just for those in the real estate industry. We ALL have too much attacking us daily from so many directions, we are only ONE person. I use to be proud of multi-tasking till I realized what it was doing to me. By continually trying to multitask your brain is 28% less effective. Compare that to 4 employees working for you, being paid by you but yet production achieved is only that of 3 people. Additionally, Multitasking is merely the opportunity to screw up more than one thing at a time. Multitasking is NOT a word created for humans but for computers!

I recommend this book to people who own a business can give a you an inspiration when business is down or you need a new plan. This book only works on people who give the idea a chance. As a 9th grader i ask my teacher to read this book.Ill like to come back to it in my future years to guide me through rough times. This book basically tells you to narrow your plans to things to need to do not what you want to do to be successful. Furthermore, this can make a dull and dead store or co. to a fierce competitor against some of the major company in your section of sells. The answers in the title and the book is the way to get to your one big thing.Gary and Jay figured out  the answer to becoming what you  want or accomplishing your dreams. In conclusion this book can change many peoples life's in the future or now.this gives people the courage or confidence to become what  you want to be in a few BIG steps.

Gary Keller’s The ONE Thing amasses the best productivity insights out there into one practical, page turning book. Reflecting on his own life, Keller wrote, “I looked back at my successes and failures and discovered an interesting pattern. Where I’d had huge success, I had narrowed my concentration to one thing, and where my success varied, my focus had too.” That’s because, as Keller notes, “There will always be just a few things that matter more than the rest, and out of those, one will matter most.” What Keller sets out to do, then, is simple: help the reader find their “One Thing” and focus on that until they find success. What the reader discovers is a wide-reaching examination of psychological studies, pieces of advice from the best leadership wisdom in print, and compelling stories of focus and determination. Admittedly, much of the material covered is found in other books; but to me, that’s the real value of this encouraging, practical read. Keller distills the “best of the best” regarding productivity and focus and weaves the cacophony of voices and disciplines out there into a thoughtful manuscript, marked by his own unique inspiration and candor. If you’re looking for help identifying your “ONE thing” and turning it into reality over the long haul, then The ONE Thing is a book worth checking out.

Again... creepy! As for ideas...maybe you could have him find some other people in the same situation...communicating over long distances by phone or fax or something equally ineffictient? Just to make this all harder. Or even...have the protagonist wind up a zombie (infected)? I don't know if anyone's ever tried to write that...particularly on the nook. It would be a cool plot twist, though..
