"The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2" by Carla Barnhill is a delightful devotional for children. It is illustrated with adorable Little Blessings children throughout by Elena Kucharik, the artist for Care Bears.
For each day of the year, there is a short verse followed by a paragraph emphasizing how the Bible, God and Jesus fit into a child's life. This is followed by a two line rhyming poem.
I, along with my 2 children, ages three and five, find this devotional charming and very appropriate. The daily readings are the right length for little ones and it applies to their world. The girls look forward to reading it each day. It is a wonderful way to share the bible with your children.
We also love the illustrations. The children in the illustrations all have different looks, from color of hair, to color of skin, or race. Any child who reads this will feel comfortable. I also like the different colors/races because it helps expose my children to others who may not look like they do or live in our neighborhood. The pictures also show typical things that a child experiences in their life.
The size of the book is nice, measuring 6" x 7.5". Perfect for little hands to hold.
The only shortcoming I feel this book has is that it is actually named for "preschoolers," when I really feel that it is appropriate for preschoolers and beyond, maybe up to second grade.
I received a copy of this book for review purposes. My review is my honest opinion. I did not receive any compensation for this review.

I decided to take a look at the book in spite of the fact that I don't have children, mainly because I have two nieces who are pre-school aged. My oldest niece discovered the book shortly after I had looked through it at several of the devotionals. She was immediately drawn to the captivating illustrations, and quickly expressed that she "loved" the book, and asked me to read it to her. So I read her from that day's devotional, and then explained to her that she and her sister would get to keep that book, much to her delight.
The illustrations are cute, and very eye-catching for young children. The pages are fairly sturdy, so they won't be easily ripped out by your young children. The daily lessons consist of a verse of Scripture, a small devotional thought, and then a little rhyme at the end that ties in with the lesson. While I didn't go through the book with a checklist, it does appear that the book uses at least one verse from every book of the Bible, something I thought was rather interesting. It starts in Genesis, and works it's way all the way through Revelation.
The one thing that I didn't like about the book, is that it uses multiple translations. On a personal level, I would much rather that the devotional stuck to one translation for consistency. Other than that, it seemed to be rather well done, and certainly something that a young child will enjoy. My rating for this book is 4 stars.

When I received this book, my kids immediately wanted me to start reading it to them and even I enjoy the cover title; Opening to the current date and reading that day's devotional, I was quickly impressed with the quality of the illustrations that really captured the devotionals being shared and the short but very meaningful devotionals that help guide a child in learning about Our Heavenly Father's desire for us all.
Using the "Little Blessings" illustrations, different versions of scripture and short devotionals that an early reader to first grader can easily read and use for daily devotions, "The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2" promises to be a delightful way to start the mornings (or end the evenings) with that day's devotions and teach early beginners of His Word.
In case you were wondering, the translations that are used in "One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2" are the NIV, TLB, NLT,ICB,TSLB,NKJV, and the NRSV and the verses used makes a great resource for scripture memorization.
The illustrations easily captures the children attention and the book is well-designed for little hands to hold on their own and explore.
This makes for a delightful gift for Christmas or Easter if you are looking for a heart-warming, simple start to teaching your children to enjoy daily devotions and is sure to capture the youngest heart and help children develop a love to spending time learning about Scripture.
