The Opera Bandby Amici Forever
With The Opera Band, the ever-expanding genre of classical crossover embraces Amici Forever, a group of five singers -- Geoff Sewell, Jo Appleby, David Habbin, Nick Garrett, and Tskane Valentine -- who offer dramatic, lushly orchestrated renditions of operatic and other familiar classical melodies, as well as more spicy, contemporary fare. Borrowing a page from such popular acts as OperaBabes and Bond, the youthful fivesome combine runway-model good looks and splashy, pop-style presentation with classical training and genuine vocal might. The result: a crowd-pleasing album made to order for fans of the pop/classical work of Andrea Bocelli, Russell Watson, and their cohorts. Yet unlike some of their competition, Amici Forever aspire to dance-club cool only on the opening number ("Prayer in the Night," based on Handel's Sarabande), with its thumping bass and syncopated percussion track, while "Canto alla vita" brings in a touch of Latin swing to the album. Other selections, however, present more straightforward -- if ardent -- arrangements of celebrated classical tunes. Fauré's Pavane and Puccini's ever-popular "Nessun dorma" are ready targets, though less well-known music from Bizet, Elgar, Dvorák, and Mozart receives like treatment. A bittersweet "Senza catene" (Unchained Melody), the sentimental "Vita mia," and the Band of Brothers theme "Requiem for a Soldier" round out the program -- one that's sure to delight "popera" fans everywhere and provide an accessible first taste for classical music newcomers.

The combination of their wonderful voices creates a harmony unlike any other in a classical crossover band. They are amazing.
We are not opera "lovers" per se, but this album is wonderful. We listen to it every night when we are having dinner in our dining room. It is relaxing, soothing and magnificant all in one. What a wonderful way to spend an evening. Thank you Opera Band!
I found this to be a fine piece of work. The members' voices seem well trained, and they blend fairly well together. It's nothing like listening to Josh Groban, but it's definately a wonderful addition to anyone's crossover classical collection.
I totally agree with your Reviewer. This new, hip, yet reverant, classically trained opera band are a FIRST. Their fantastic sounds are truly amazing and if you do not already have this album, buy it immediately... you will not be disappointed. They have taken classical crossover to another dimension....! So grateful that finally the music industry realise we want 'the real deal'....and this they truly are!!
I absolutely love this album. It's a breath of fresh air....the five classically trained singers are fantastic. Their vocal harmonies, blends and new twists are truly remarkable. They have paid due deference to the classics whilst opening up a whole new world for people who maybe just wouldn't normally buy this kind of thing. My kids love it too. It is the best thing to come out of the music industry in a very long while. May they go from strength to strength and bring out a follow up album very soon.
If you like classical and are looking for something light, this CD is it. A true crossover between light and classic. I hope to see more of this group.
Not an opera buff myself, I bought this CD on a whim. I was completely blown away the first time I played this CD. I just let it start over as soon as it finished, and I don't get into my car without it. Each track is an absolute treasure to listen to. The voices amd orchestrations are outstanding, and I can't wait until there's another album by this group.
The Opera Band is a great alternative to people (like myself) who don't really like opera. Their voices blend wonderfully!
I saw them perform live before I got the CD. Their charismatic performance as well as their angelic voices "wowed" me. Buy the CD but look for the opportunity to see them perform live also.
I work in a store where we sell cds and one day i came across this cd. I took it home and havent taken it out of the cd player since. I listen to it after a long day of work or just to relax. It is one of the best cds that i have bought and my collection is up to about 700 cds.
...like being in the concert hall but in your own home..highly recommend as it was to me ..tranports me into a wonderful place away from the daily grind....bravo
