Editorial Reviews

Jonathan Rodriguez
Olivia Kaspen is, quite simply, the kind of character a whole series of books could be based on. She's easy to relate to, bitingly funny, and, frankly, a touch evil, which every good character should be. This story certainly isn't your everyday, cliched love story with boringly fake bimbos and blowhards. It's a rather well-written look at flawed characters who are too proud or pathetic to make the right, or smart, choices, and just like us, seem to increase their problems rather than erase them.
Lori Sabin
I loved this book from start to finish. My only complaint is that I didn't want it to end. I HOPE there will be a sequel.

Olivia gets under your skin. She's dark, hard and doesn't trust anyone, but the more you get to know her, the more you desperately root for her. She loses the only man she's ever loved and is so devastated that when she runs into him again, she can't even fathom a second chance. Caleb is charming and the love he has for Olivia is so pure and unstoppable that the twis

    What the....NO!!!!

This book has me sooo conflicted! I wanted to give it 1 star because of the way it made me feel and the way it ended...but I have to give it 5 for the very same reason. I actually lost sleep over this book and have never felt so...ugh...I don't know how to describe what I feel! I lost sleep for 2 reasons...I had to finish reading it (in one sitting) and I have not been able to stop thinking about it! I have been affected like this was my story, not Olivia's! I truly felt frustration, elation and heartbreak like it all was happening to me. And all I keep thinking is how I wish I could go back and do it the right way!
I love these characters! Olivia is so damaged and her choices are a direct reflection of that damage. And you can't help but like her and hate are all at the same time. I literally screamed at my Nook..."why can't you tell the truth for once?!" Caleb...oh Caleb...my heart breaks just thinking about him. And knowing what I know now made me love him even more.
Read this book...love this book...but be prepared for an f'd up ride!

    Seriously...Read it.

This book is honestly going to take over your life until you finish it, and even then you'll be attached to it. The author completely draws you into the mind of Olivia Kaspen...the most complex, sarcastic, passionate, and all around badass characters I've ever read about. This is not your classic love story by any means. The plot is refreshing and entirely consuming. After I finished The Opportunist, I couldn't stop pondering the story and the characters...and as many have mentioned, you won't be able to go to the airport ever again without thinking of Olivia and Caleb.

I read this book because it was recommended after completing Thoughtless and Effortless. The ratings were high and the reviews were mostly favorable so I went for it. I WISH I HADN'T. This book made me cringe the entire way through... and while I read both Thoughtless and Effortless in one day each, it took me two weeks to finish this one because I hated it so much, but refused to not finish since I spent money on it.
I'm not sure if I was supposed to feel sorry for Olivia since she knew she was a rotten person, but I felt nothing but pure disgust for her. She did some morally bankrupted things and she just NEVER redeemed herself, in my eyes. I kept wishing that nothing bad would come to her, and what little bad did come her way just didn't seem like enough. I really couldn't find a character that I did like, until the very end... NOAH, and he was only in the story for like five pages. Caleb, Leah, and Olivia all deserve the heartache they endured.
I will not be reading anymore of this series.

    Are You Serious?

This was one of the worst endings I've ever read!!!! So basically evil prevails and you settle for second best? Nice message.

Read this book in one sitting....

I liked it, but.....the ending left me feeling like I needed more or maybe I was expecting something else which left me disappointed & sad for Olivia.

    A Really Good Book

My best friend recommended this book to me. She met the author, who she said is really funny and entertaining, so she wanted to see if the book was as entertaining as the girl who wrote it. She was so impressed that she actually bought me a Nook for Christmas just so I could read it. I loved it! It was my first Nook purchase and I read it in a day. My husband kept trying to talk to me and I would shush him because I COULD NOT put it down. I loved the story between the two main characters so much that when I finished the book, I actually missed them. I have never read a book that ties you to the characters as well as The Opportunist. I would love to read another book by this author. I hope she writes more.

    BOOK CRACK!

Reading this book was most definitely like crack. It's all I thought about whether I was at work or home. I just wanted to get back to reading until it was done. And now that its done I feel so sad. The characters are so real and fleshed out that you feel like you know them personally by the time the book is done. I miss them. I would recommend this to anyone. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

    Well written

Gripping novel with complex characters that kept my attention from the beginning. Unexpected twists compelled me to keep reading-very entertaining! The ending was devastating and hopeful all at once.

You won't be able to put it down...

This is an exceptionally great story. The characters, Caleb & Olivia, stay in your brain long after you have finished reading. You'll want to read it more than once or twice...it's that gripping. I hope there will be a sequel SOON. The ending definitely leaves you wanting MORE.

    4.5 stars
I know, I know....I'm late to the LMwL Series, but I'm glad I read the books all in a row. I'm not so sure that my sanity would have been able to handle the wait between each book. So, what did I think? I think that this series is worth the hype. Fisher is wildly talented in making you root for the morally corrupt.

Despite Olivia's faults, I really wanted her to end up with Caleb. I think she realized that when she broke his heart years ago, that it was an enormous mistake. She gets a second chance with him in this one, but does she take it? The circumstances surrounding their reunion are complicated and nothing is as it seems. That's what hooked me. I kept waiting for the shoe to drop, only to find out that their were multiple shoes in the pile!

That's all you're going to get from me about this book. You must read this in order to understand how this wicked story unfolds. I was consumed by it and I'll admit that I felt a little dirty for cheering for Olivia, who in fact...is the good guy/gal (you know what I mean). Just read it. It's totally worth it.

    Quotes:
~"And my personal favorite, your lips." He smiled as a pink flush crept up my neck. "Full and sensual, puckered, and always turned down at the corners. They kind of make me want to kiss them until they smile."-pg 77

~"You are not as bad as you think. Whatever you've done, Caleb will still love you. You have to let him love you, Olivia, and more importantly, you have to love him back."-pg 287

~"Leah, go be with your husband," I say. "Before he realizes that he's still in love with me."-Pg 351

~You can only give your heart away once; after that, everything else will chase your first love.-pg 426

    Must Read!

I cant even begin to describe my feelings for this book. It was recommended by a friend explaining how engrossed she became with the series and I definitely agree just from the first book. The ending is different and may upset some, but in my opinion it was for the better. A twist on something we are not use to. Olivia's character had me entranced the whole time. And ohhhh Caleb, I wish I had someone like him to chase around!! But long story short, definitely a must read!! You won't regret it! :)

    Good story

Definitely a different kind of story. A lot of characters that I loved to hate. So glad I didn't read until all 3 were out, would be tough to wait to see what happens.

I cannot say enough about this book & the ENTIRE series!! Tarryn Fisher did an AMAZING job & these books will BLOW your mind. As I’m sitting here preparing to write this review my thoughts are scattered all over the place. It gets you thinking if you had a chance to start all over would you? I enjoyed getting the story from past & present chapters. We meet Olivia on the day she runs into her ex-boyfriend. She hasn’t seen him in three years. She knows things ended badly but finds it strange that Caleb is acting as if he doesn’t know her. She finds out that he was in a car accident & is suffering from amnesia. She wants a second chance with Caleb & when they run into each other again, she takes it. I really don’t want to go too much into the plot so all I will say is that this book & the entire series are MUST READS!! I loved TF’s writing style & cannot wait to read her future novels. The last two paragraphs of the epilogue get me every single time I read it. Olivia’s inner monologue & her reactions to situations are 100% believable & I could imagine myself reacting the same way.
    - I think that after the first time you give your heart away, you never get it back. The rest of your life is just you pretending that you still have a heart.
