Their trip is interrupted by Nicholas, Frevisse's cousin, who seeks her assistance in obtaining a pardon for him and his band of outlaws. Teens who like their violence offstage and their heroines strong and smart will enjoy the story, and they are likely to learn quite a bit about daily life in 1434 as they join Frevisse's quest

Margaret Frazer is the award-winning author of more than twenty historical murder mysteries and novels. She makes her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, surrounded by her books, but she lives her life in the 1400s. In writing her Edgar-nominated Sister Frevisse (<em>The Novice's Tale</em>) and Player Joliffe (<em>A Play of Isaac</em>) novels she delves far inside medieval perceptions, seeking to look at medieval England more from its point of view than ours.     A great read. I loved it!!

    This was such an interesting book, with its detective cloistered nun as its main character. Sister Frevisse is an appealing character, with a deep love of God, yet who is thrown into the midst of a puzzling mystery. She weaves in and out of the other characters of the story, asking polite questions, which, because of her station in life, disarms the suspect and leads to the solving of the crime. This is my first introduction to Margaret Frazer's incredible talent, and I'm already into the next one. A really great read!

    Excellent read

    I truly enjoyed this because it wove a romantic thread into the mystery and kept you guessing as to the real murderer. I also liked the inclusion of hinting at who the actual character of the "outlaw" was as well as having Chaucer once again in the book. This has been my favorite one so far in the series.
