The is an excellent book by an excellent author who is extremely knowledgeable in the subject matter she writes about. I found it to be very well researched and beautifully written. Dunwich's Samhain ritual was the best I've ever come across, and I have read hundreds of NeoPagan books (including RavenWolf's Halloween, which pales in comparison to Dunwich's Pagan Book of Halloween!)Was this review helpful? Save your money. Honestly. Even if you can excuse the 7th-grade writing level, the author gives fact after fact with zero documentation to back her up. There are no references to archaelogical or anthropolgical finds. And worst of all, some of her facts are simply incorrect. (My favorite: the author repeatedly refers to "olden times" and "ancient times," never defining what period in history to which she is referring. Anyone know when olden times was?) Despite a decent bibliography, the author gives no evidence to support any of her claims. I truly wonder if she read any of the books that she has listed. The history of Halloween/Samhain is a complex and interesting subject. But this book does a disservice to the holiday with semi-literate writing, half-truths, and unsubstantiated claims. The only thing this book is a complete guide to is how to make a quick buck off the resurgence of paganism. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I was very disappointed by this book! The chapter on food was somewhat interesting. Overall, it held a cold and boring aura, and wasn't worth the cover price! Try Silver Ravenwolf's "Halloween" and you'll be greeted with a much more light-hearted, stimulating style of writing, that will put any reader in the spirit of the season! (Literally)! Gerina's books lack heavily in creative wit and comfort, and I would carefully critique her books before purchasing them! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
