The weird and wonderful artistry of award-winner Wallace Edwards brings you The Painted Circus, a showstopper of a book where the eye is tricked, bamboozled, hoodwinked and flimflammed ? but finally rewarded when all mysteries are revealed after the grand finale! P.T. Vermin, ringmouse extraordinaire, ushers patrons into the Big Top to behold 22 astonishing stunts, including Norwegian Marching Ducks, the Spectral Sphere and the Flying Fishtastics, each featuring an eye-opening optical illusion. It's all here -- fabulous phenomena, impossible objects, moving patterns, visual distortions and topsy-turvy geometric illusions! Each page encourages kids to get into the act by solving the visual puzzles in every image -- and they will delight in spinning, flipping, tilting and making funny faces at the book as they do so. Entertainment for the whole family, Wallace Edwards's tour de force is a work of art that will leave readers spellbound by the power of perception and the magic of imagination.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Enhanced by a surprise or two in the page comers, this offers plenty of potential for enjoyable browsing.

A great introduction to the world of art ...

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
P. T. Vermin, ringmouse extraodinaire, invites the reader to join him on "a magical tour of visual trickery and optical illusions." He more than fulfills his promise. Each illustration abounds with images that cause the reader to take a second look, a third look, and many more looks. Some pictures require the book to be turned upside down or sideways. Others suggest holding the book to the nose. Always there is more than initially meets the eye. When insets in the upper corners of the pages are flipped quickly, an elephant tips his hat on the left and a queen turns over to become a king on the right. Secrets for discovering the mysteries in the pictures are provided in the back of the book, which will most likely have the reader going back through for all that was missed the first time. The snappy text is often alliterative and gives some clues to get the viewer started. This is an intriguing book for all ages.
