It's Summertime...Beach time...Carnival time

And for Christy

Pan's time…

The carnival arrives at the beach every summer, bringing with it the sounds, the lights, the music, and the mystery only a carnival can impart. But this year, it's brought something more, this year something out of Greek mythology has traveled with it, in search of a long-lost love.

"The Pan Man" is a young adult, paranormal short story. It first resided on the LASR website after having received an honorable mention in a contest hosted by them. It was a step away from my typical genre, so receiving an honorable mention for the story was very delightful for me. This version is expanded, and therefore reads as a new story.

The gypsy, Larue Dubois, makes her first appearance in "The Pan Man". She will emerge again in the novella, "The Image" due for release in the winter of 2011.

Meet the Author

I'm a southern gal, born in the north, but I got here as fast I could.

That's a saying we have here in Texas, so I thought I'd slip it in for all you
Texans. But, for the northerners', I want to add that I have very warm memories from my childhood. In the fall, there were autumn leaves that rival any sunrise or sunset that I've ever seen. Come winter, we would ice the backyard with the water hose and skate on it for hours, followed by snow ball fights that lasted until we couldn't throw anymore.

While I was still young, my parents returned to the south to be with family. From then on, family played a large role in my life. Homemade ice cream was cranked and served in the back yard at night, and all the while, the fragrance of honeysuckles and gardenias lingered everywhere, surrounding us with their essence.

It was the memories of these scents and the sultry warmth of southern nights that greatly influenced my initial writings and still hold sway in much of my work.

    What a fun read!

What a sweet story for the young at heart! And who wouldn't want this fantasy to come true when they were young? Ms. Wheeler has a hit on her hands with this short story. I enjoyed it tremendously.

A sweet, young adult romance, wherein fantasy plays with reality. A truly delightful story!

Three restless nights Christy dreams of the mythical Pan, beckoning her to follow him down a sandy stretch of beach. Before the dreams ends, his flute changes to an extended hand and his face transforms to the hottest guy Christy has ever seen. Only when she seeks answers from the gypsy at the carnival, does she discover fate has played a hand in her destiny and the clues lie within her dreams.

When Christy joins her friends at the outdoor stage to hear the band Pan-Demonium, she is shocked to find the main guitarist, who flirts shamelessly with her has the face of Pan.or does he? When the band plays their first song, it is the haunting melody from her dreams.

Alexis has the perfect spot for watching Christy's every move. He's found her much sooner than hoped and delights in that she's come to this beach. It's so similar to the one they lived near before, in a life Christy doesn't remember.
