Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The author, an often censured Roman Catholic liberation theologian, is well and accessibly presented through a series of excerpts from his letters and published writings. They give an idea of his background, his sense of mission and calling to serve the poor through his theology, and his evolving thoughts on a variety of topics, such as the mystery of life, the mystery of God's sacrament, the sacrament of the poor, the human being as divine parable, the mystery of iniquity, faith's political dimension, and ecology and spirituality. Those unfamiliar with Boff, or familiar with only one or two of his writings, will find the book a fine introduction to one of the greatest of contemporary theologians; fans of Boff will enjoy the pithy, well-chosen extracts; and those puzzled by his resignation from the priesthood can read his own reasons placed in the context of ongoing persecution. Highly recommended for all seminary and public libraries, as well as for academic collections.
