Overview

You dream of having a full-time career writing novels, but you're not sure how to get there, or if it's even possible. Maybe you've played the lottery with the traditional publishers, submitting your work over and over again to publishers and agents, only to receive a pile of rejection notices. You've looked at self-publishing, but are leery of it, or maybe you've embraced the idea but don't know where to start because you have no background in the publishing industry. Or maybe you're one of the many who's jumped into the self-publishing pool and splashed around, but haven't made the kind of progress you wanted to achieve.

If that sounds like you, then you need to read this book. Michael Hicks has been self-publishing since 2008, and through trial and error found his path to success in early 2011 when his books hit the Amazon bestseller lists. A few months later, he kissed goodbye his day job of twenty-five years to write full-time, a move that completely transformed his life. But he had never been previously published, and had no background in publishing or marketing. Yet he succeeded.

This book tells you how he did it. By sharing what he learned from sometimes painful experience, you can avoid many of the pitfalls that self-published authors may encounter, and maximize the potential to achieve your own success.

Good info from a great and caring fellow writer!

In this book, Michael Hicks will teach you a lot. You must then implement what he offers. This was among the most appreciated information for me, as it is one thing to write a book, or a whole bunch of books, but if no one ever knows they exist, they'll never sell. You won't be able to share your passion you spent a year writing about, and you won't make any money, which is not necessarily the supreme goal, but wanting to earn a living from our writing is nothing to be ashamed of, either. You'll learn about The Big 6, the 10-step road map for self-publishing success, how to treat your writing business like a business, and how & where to begin. You'll learn 8 practical steps to getting your work completed (a step many aspiring writers simply never complete), and into the marketplace. Michael also discusses the all-important presentation of your book, and the crucial mistakes to avoid, mistakes which will sabotage your efforts, no matter how good your writing may be. This is a lesson every aspiring indie writer must take to heart, because, although you can't judge a book by its cover, we all do. So if you're an indie writer, at whatever stage, there is always new stuff to learn, and Michael's book is a great place to start, or serve as an adjunct to other popular indie guides by Konrath or Locke, for example. Plus, no matter where you are in your writing career, Michael has the sales numbers to back up what he has to say in this book. There's no arguing with his expertise in that area. He's not a guru making all his money selling you a bridge; he's making his money from his WRITING, and wants to share this knowledge.
