Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Veronica Bartles
Two little spiders discover a peanut, and they do not know what it is, but they know they do not want to share. It might be a chair or a hat, a telephone, or a drum. It might be a boat or a skateboard, but it is definitely not big enough to share—until a bigger spider comes along and tries to take the peanut away. As they fight over the peanut, an elephant comes along, eats the nut and squishes the big bully spider. And the little spiders each get half of the empty peanut shell, so they do not have to share after all. Although parents might be disturbed by the squashing of the bully and the resolution that does not result in true sharing, small children, with their black and white sense of justice, will likely cheer. The simple, sparse illustrations combined with minimal text allow imaginations to run wild, and young readers are likely to come up with many more uses for one simple peanut. Reviewer: Veronica Bartles; Ages 3 up.
