Richard Cook is the former editor of the Wire and is currently the editor of the leading UK jazz magazine, Jazz Review. He is the coauthor of The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings.

    A Must-Have Reference Book

    Any jazz fan should have this book, which contains reviews of virtually every important jazz recording in the last 60 years. The authors also include fascinating commentary on the musicians and their careers, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the producers, the sidemen and the historical context of the sessions. It is also fun to read, unlike most reference books.

    El mejor libro de discografia de Jazz

    Soy de Perú - Arequipa, lo pedi y en 3 semanas llego a la puerta de mi trabajo, fue espectacular.
    Lo abri y el contenido del libro es asombroso, detalle a detalle cada uno de los discos de mis idolos del Jazz, sobre todo Miles Davis y John Coltrane. Personas que cambiaron mi vida en años anteriores.
    Gracias a B & N por tener a disposicion de cualquiera tremendas joyas literarias y de la musica.

    Revived my interest in jazz

    Until I came across this book, I tended to listen to jazz artists I already knew or happened across on the radio. Following the suggestions in this book, I have discovered many, many new artists and great recordings, and I look forward to years of such exploration under the guidance of Cook and Morton. I don't always agree with the authors but I find their reviews insightful and motivating. This book is great for anyone who wants to know what jazz recording to listen to next.
