More About This Textbook

Overview

You've used it for years in synagogue-now take your own copy home. Popularly known as the Hertz Chumash, this classic Hebrew-English edition of the Five Books of Moses, with corresponding Haftorahs, is used in synagogues and classrooms throughout the English-speaking world. In this compact volume, the late Chief Rabbi of England, Rabbi Dr. Joseph Hertz, provides readers with a lucid exposition of the text and the spiritual and ethical teachings of the Torah, culled from a wide range of scholarly literature. It contains the full Hebrew text, line-by-line English translation, and the classic Hertz commentary. Complete with all the Haftorahs for holidays and special Sabbaths.

A holy holy holy book .No Jewish home should be without it.

It seems presumptuous to review the Hertz Chumash .Is there anything more absurd than the thought of a human being ' reviewing ' the Torah? But I will say something about the commentary of Hertz. It has been with me since my childhood and is with me still. The commentary is deeply intelligent and will strengthen the faith of the believing Jew. It is written with love and reverence for the Holy Text.It is possible to learn all one's life long from this work. Though I use other Chumashes, including the great Hirsch this Chumash will always have a great part in my learning life. I read it every week when I read through the Parsha .No Jewish home should be without it.
