Whether you're out of ideas or pressed for time, have hundreds to spend or just a few dollars, The Perfect Present will solve all of your gift-giving dilemmas. This creative resource guide is jam-packed with one-of-a-kind gift ideas as well as innovative ways to spruce up tried-and-true classics.

Gift guru Robyn Freedman Spizman puts the fun back into gift-giving by sharing the gems of her fifteen-plus years of researching and reporting on the best gifts across America. Beginning with the "Perfect Present Survey," you'll learn the secret to selecting the ideal gift for even the most finicky person on your list. Spizman addresses every occasion—from birthdays to the holidays, from graduations to weddings, from congratulations gifts to "forgive me" gifts. The Perfect Present also locates the country's best catalog companies and top suppliers of everything from the juiciest oranges to chocolate greeting cards.

Find a gift that will bring a smile to any child's face—such as a personalized Winnie the Pooh—or make a splash by engraving a wedding invitation or having the bride's bouquet replicated in silk flowers. Spizman even offers creative advice on how best to delight friends and family with warm, witty notes and an element of surprise.

From purchase to presentation, Spizman doesn't miss an event, and now with the gems of her extensive research, neither will you!

Find gifts to suit every budget and every occasion.

For kids who have "seen it all," try naming a star after them with the Ministry of Federal Star Registration.

Put a twist on traditional gifts—for the first "paper" anniversary, try airplanetickets!

Give creative business gifts that show clients and colleagues you care, like personalized desktop accessories, or for fun, send a chocolate cellular phone customized with your name and telephone number.

Get unique ideas for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Thanksgiving, tokens of congratulations and forgiveness, Bar Mitzvah presents, and every other occasion when you want to express your feelings by giving the perfect present.

It's better to give than to receive, as the old adage says. But what if you don't know what to give or where to find it? Your gift-giving dilemmas are over now that you're shopping with "The Gift Guru," Robyn Freedman Spizman.

Interviews & Essays

On Monday, December 14th, barnesandnoble.com on AOL welcomed Robyn Freedman Spizman to discuss THE PERFECT PRESENT.

JainBN: Welcome, Gift Guru! Robyn Spizman, so glad you could join us to answer all of our holiday gift-giving questions! Would you like to make any opening comments?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Greetings, everyone! It's wonderful to be online with you tonight! Finding the perfect present doesn't have to be difficult. As an advocate of creative gift-giving, I have always tried to give gifts that would be adored and make a difference. The ideal outcome of the perfect present is that you make someone else remarkably special because you selected something just for them. So let's go shopping!

Question: Do you think gift certificates are too impersonal as Christmas gifts?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Gift certificates are an outstanding way to give someone the gift of choice -- their choice! For example, if you don't know what book to give them, a Gift Certificate from barnesandnoble.com is a great way to let them do the choosing, and you look like a gift-giving pro! Plus, my favorite thing is they get to go shopping in the middle of the night!

Question: My father is impossible to buy for. Everything he needs he already has, and everything he wants he buys himself. Help! I want to get him something he will like that won't get thrown into the closet with everything else I buy him. He likes baseball and golf.

Robyn Freedman Spizman: In THE PERFECT PRESENT, I give you loads of 800 numbers for every interest imaginable. A home run hit for your dad could be found in We Pitch, a catalogue for baseball enthusiasts. Call 1-800-WE-PITCH. Check out their personalized products for any baseball lover and replicas of pro team jerseys for diehard fans. Tickets to a game or golf tournament would also score, or inquire if the cable golf channel that runs 24 hours a day is available in your area. Dad's lucky to have such a thoughtful daughter on his team.

Question: My best friend loves horses. Could you suggest a gift idea that involves horses that I can give her for Christmas?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: The perfect present for a horse lover is a wonderful book titled

Question: What kind of tips do you have for saving a few bucks on Christmas shopping?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Every time you get any loose change, don't spend it. Stick to the bills, and you'll be surprised at how your loose change will add up. Also, give up one bad habit -- soft drinks, whatever -- and you'll be surprised by the amount of money you'll save in the next two weeks.

Question: We've got a Secret Santa deal going on at work. I know nothing about the coworker I'm supposed to buy a present for. What should I do?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Now come on, gift givers, you can be a Sherlock Holmes! All you have to do is a little observing and investigation. What does this coworker have sitting on their desk? Family photographs, snow domes? Do a little research, and even the gift-impaired can succeed. When in doubt, give chocolate!

Question: I work for a rich man who already has everything his little heart desires (and if he wants it and doesn't have it, there's no way I can afford it!). He is very generous to me, and I would like to give him something. Any ideas for a rich man who loves books?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: The perfect gift for a guy who has everything would be a book titled BOOKS OF THE CENTURY, edited by Charles McGrath, the editor of the The New York Times Book Review. This book is a compilation of the best book reviews from the past 100 years. He'll love it!

Question: Help! I have no clue what to give my boyfriend, who loves books, but I'm afraid if I give him one that I find that he would have already read it. So I was thinking of a gift certificate, but what can I put with it to give it some, as you call it, pizzazz?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: A gift certificate is a great idea, but hiding it in a great book that's hot off the press will beat him at his own game. Along with the gift certificate, hide self-sticking notes between the pages with little "I Love You" messages and save the best for last -- a photo of you on the last page. This will be one book he'll be glad he read cover-to-cover!

Question: I am looking for a Christmas gift idea for our next-door neighbors. They both enjoy reading and cooking. Separately, his interests are baseball and hockey, and her interests are teaching and reading. They are both in their late 20s. Please help.

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Your next-door neighbors will love ROSEMARY BROWN'S BIG KITCHEN INSTRUCTION BOOK. It's a compendium of everything you'd want to know for running the kitchen. This book is the one-stop shop for kitchen lovers. They're bound to cook up something fabulous with the help of this outstanding book.

Question: I am looking for a gift to send someone who is undergoing chemotherapy treatment today. I thought about sending a basket, but they are generally full of food -- not something she would be particularly interested in right now. Any suggestions?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: In THE PERFECT PRESENT, I have an entire chapter on get-well gifts. Consider giving some relaxing music with a beautiful book. My favorite one to give someone facing a challenge is a sensitive book called THE JESTER HAS LOST HIS JINGLE, written and illustrated by David Salzman. This is a spectacular children's book that adults will treasure too, telling the tale of a jester that is worried that the world has lost its sense of humor. This uplifting book, written by a young man who had Hodgkin's disease, would soothe and encourage anyone facing a difficult time. Or consider sending a copy of CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL with some homemade chicken soup and your get-well wishes.

Question: I need a gift for my mother-in-law. She is a wonderful, thoughtful woman who has just turned 76 years old. Time is running out, and I can't find that "perfect gift." They live in Florida and have everything they want and need. I'm stuck. Can you help?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Here comes Robin to the rescue! Mother-in-laws love compliments...in fact, who doesn't? Make a sign on posterboard that says, "We love you, Mom, you're the greatest!" and take a picture of your entire family holding the sign, frame it, and I promise this gift will be picture-perfect and prominently displayed where everyone can see it.

JainBN: This will be our last question for the Gift Guru tonight :)

Question: How did you come to be the Gift Guru and write THE PERFECT PRESENT?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: I've spent the past 16 years researching the best gifts across America as well as reporting on gift-giving as the Super Shopper for NBC in Atlanta. I love giving gifts even more than receiving them. When writing THE PERFECT PRESENT, I reviewed hundreds of gifts and discovered treasures for every budget possible. I love to save time, energy, and money and wrote the book compiling the best 800 numbers, gift resources, and creative ideas. I'm hopelessly addicted to writing, and this is my 63rd book. Just in case you need more advice, check out the great books I suggest on barnesandnoble.com every week. This week, I'll be reporting on the top books for kids...stay tuned!

JainBN: Robyn, thanks a billion! Any last-minute gift-giving ideas before we say goodnight?

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Just in case you can't think of anything to give, do what I do and check out the Gift Center at barnesandnoble.com (Keyword: bn). You'll find that there's a perfect book for every reader and nonreader on your list.

JainBN: Thanks so much, Robyn! Goodnight and we'll see you next Monday evening!

Robyn Freedman Spizman: Happy Shopping! Wonderful!

JainBN: Goodnight all!
