Overview

Gary Stevens is always looking for the perfect ride. In this exhilarating, candid autobiography, he recounts the extreme highs and devastating lows of a stellar career that has spanned two decades, taken him around the world on the backs of some of the 20th century's greatest horses, and led to a role in the upcoming motion picture Seabiscuit.

From the adrenaline-pumped moments in the starter's gate at the Kentucky Derby to the fiercely competitive, sometimes hostile environment inside the jockeys' room, Stevens lays bare the thrills and perils of his ambitious ascentand the doubts, fears, and failures he confronted both on and off the track as his all-consuming passion nearly became his undoing. More than a racetrack reminiscence, A Perfect Ride is the remarkable story of a man who has triumphed over a lifetime of adversity. Searing in its honesty, vivid in its recollections, here is the inside track on a life lived at full tilt, as told by a farm boy who rode his way to the top.

I would of liked to write a review for this book, no new books to buy, only books, used, B&N Marketplace were available. So I ordered from a MediaStore12345. On July 19, the book shipped out supposedly on the 21st of July, i received a email from MediaStore12345, but no tracking number. Today is the 14th of August. I lost my orginal confirmation email from MediaStore12345 so I have emailed and emailed and emailed B&N but they are NO help with this. BUYERS BEWARE. I did look up on computer at this MediaStore12345, they sell textbooks for college’s etc., It seems a bad pattern with them, I am out a book and the money. I have been a great B&N member and customer for years and years, Amazon is looking better everyday, at least for used books.

As Gary's literary agent, I'll admit to being far from unbiased. Having just started following the sport of horseracing, I found the book to be a great introduction to the sport--the owners, the trainers, the history, and the relationship between horses and jockeys. Gary is a great story-teller and his passion for the sport and his spiritual relationship with horses made for an incredible read. It's the kind of book that you can read in one sitting. I know first-hand that Gary put his heart and soul into the book, and it shows.
