Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
In the fall of his fifth grade year at Freedom Elementary, Tyler Thompson is presented with two challenges that will test his perseverance and self-confidence. First, he must research the explorer Christopher Columbus and present his work as an oral report in front of the entire class. Second, Tyler wants to try out for the basketball team, a sport where his ability and confidence level are very low. However, Tyler has help. In the corner of Miss Trimble's room is a secret trapdoor that leads to a space occupied by his canine guide, Barnabus Bailey. Together they travel through time to experience the various stages of Columbus' life. From early childhood, Columbus questioned early beliefs that the Sea of Darkness would lead to the edge of the world. Tyler and Barnaby watch as Columbus learns the art of sailing and witness the obstacles that he encounters in his efforts to answer his childhood question. Through the magic of the trapdoor, Tyler is at Columbus' side during the discovery of the new world. The perseverance Tyler learned through his adventure in history is reflected in his report and his success on the basketball court. The author includes a series of pages with information on Columbus' fleet, his four voyages, a timeline of major events, and suggested reading materials. Part of the "Miss Trimble's Trapdoor" series. The Perseverance Of Christopher Columbus

This book teaches kids that learning can be fun and exciting. I as a home school mother try to make learning fun so I can really appreciate this book. I learned things about Christopher Columbus that I did not know before. I think it's a great read for kids and teachers alike. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

    Great Book!!

Miss Trimble's Trapdoor is such a great book. It really sends out a great message to kids out there that have trouble in school. It also teaches kids that learning can be fun and exciting. I love the pictures in the book. They are bright and go with the story very well. My son loved this book. We can't wait for book 3 to come out so we can find out what else Tyler is going to do and learn.
