Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-6 A new series of adventuresor rather, misadventuresfeaturing the re doubtable 12 year old. Peter's laconic friend Joey Gootz is mad to set a world's record, any sort of world's record. A huge cotton candy maker spreads gloops of melt ed sugar all over the basement walls, and a giant kite drags him off his feet and into the air, but these are minor setbacks. As usual, Peter both organizes and records each ef fort. The two lads get better as they go along (the ``world's biggest kid's parade'' that they plan to benefit a young friend who needs a kidney transplant goes off without a hitch and nets a pile of money), but Peter finds his own record right at home when he helps his sister deliver her daughterthe ``World's Greatest Baby.'' Hicks is a fine storyteller, and he spices these small-town antics with homespun wisdom and an as sortment of warm-hearted characters. John Peters, New York Public Library
