As much a brand name as a composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber never does anything In a small way. 1988's The Phantom of The Opera, perhaps the finest effort of Lord Webber's career, began life with a particularly human heart beating at its center: Michael Crawford's Phantom. The very last word in swoony romanticism, honey-tenored Crawford stormed Broadway and jumped-started a late-career revival that has yet to slow down. This double-disc, original cast recording also features costar Sarah Brightman (the former Mrs. Lloyd Webber), who uses her powerful voice to stunning advantage on "All I Ask of You" and "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again." Crawford's gorgeous, hushed vocal dazzles in the memorable showpiece, "The Music of the Night," as spectacular and definitive a Broadway moment as any in the last half-century.

All Music Guide - Tavia Hobart
This is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's most highly acclaimed productions. The two-disc set comes with a booklet that has not only the lyrics, but also the dialog and stage directions. Sarah Brightman appears as Christine Daae (the heroine) and Michael Crawford as the Phantom. It's also available in a one-disc "highlights" version.

The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most popular stories of all times. Yet Andrew Lloyd Webber and Harold Prince captured the story on a different note. By combinding the haunting, mysterious side with the romantic side and a little bit of Broadway magic, phan just keep coming back for more and more. I saw the stage preformance with Sarah Lawrence and Gary Mauver as the Phantom and Christine at the Broward Center for Preforming Arts. They were amazing but when I finally bought the CD of Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford, they were also amazing. Only problem is I wish there was more on the CD that just is. I guess I was hoping for the "full" preformance. Some people say that Sarah Brightman ruin the CD well in respect it was written for her and it was her time to sing it, mind you. But, yes, there were others that came a long way that transcended above her "but some can't hit the "E" in the tittle song right". I guess if you are properly trained "take it by me a singer" anyone can sing Phantom. Sarah took her singing career to another level thanks to Phantom and to me she sounds the same. The Phantom is the most loved character throughout the show. Even though the movie wasn't the same as the play, I thought the movie was good but I like the stage Phantom better because he shows a lot more emotion and rage than the movie "some part... sword fight was cool". The rest of cast played their parts respectively well. I think that this classic will continue to become a one of a kind treasure in American History. The music and the mystical wonderings of the Phantom of the Opera will leave you haunted forever.

The Phantom of the Opera has been my favorit show on broadway. This music really brings back those memories.

It's a great musical, but Brightman shouldn't have been in it. I can't believe people actually think she is the only Christine, she's the best, blah, blah, blah. She sounds like a frog (or in the spirit of things, toad) and she would have done better as Carlotta. Other than that, Michael Crawford is great, but some of the songs don't really sound right with him singing them. Some of them don't sound right with him singing high notes. They just need lower, more powerful ones. Don't get me wrong, he's great. The rest of the cast is pretty good, just not the right people in the right part for some of them (cough, cough, Brightman). I'm not some "Gerard Butler is the only Phantom" phan because he definitely has some rough spots too. Four stars for a pretty good cast album.

I got this CD set first time in Thailand for almost ten years ago and had been listening to it since. Now, my older set worn out--I'm acquiring this one as a backup--not a replacement. I strongly recommend this CD over the other one from the film. (I have also bought the other one, which is nonetheless excellent, but I still love this one better). The wordings are little different, somewhat; the music is the same, however. Anyway, everytime I listen to this CD set, I end up crying by the end of it. It's touched my heart and lasted this long; I'm sure it will do so to yours!!!

The original cast recording is simply the BEST!! Michael and Sarah make the listener envision the show and pull you in instantly. The movie pales in comparison...Emmy's voice isn't nearly as operatic or pure, nor is Raul's or the Phantom's. You just don't mess with a good thing and the original cast is by far and away greatest ever to perform the show. Who needs the movie when there's Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman??!!!

I love all of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicals, but this one has got to be my favorite. I did notice that they cut the two first songs off, but I ordered it anyway. It turned out just to be a mistake, because those songs where actually on the CD. I do think my favorite songs have to be The Phantom of the Opera and Past the Point of no Return.

I just saw the Phantom of the Opera two weeks ago. It was a real experience, for I had never seen an opera so well performed as this. You all must see it. You'll feel so sorry for the phantom, cause I cried. Then when christine kissed the phantom infront of Raoul, I almost died. You see, i went to the one with Ted Keagan as the Phantom , he was sooo good. And John Cudia was Raoul. He's hot. I got to stick my hand in his pocket to get his pen out for him afterwards so He could autograph my book. wow! I also got all the main characters signatures. anyhow. so, i love the music. And Everything and Anything to do with the Phantom--The soundtrack is a MUST HAVE

I'm 15, and I must tell you-this is the best in music. If you listen to the clips, especially All I Ask of You, and Little Lotte/The Mirror, and Music of the Night, you will understand the Phantom's yearning, the people's awakening. It is beatiful. I saw the Broadway show, and was transfixed. Your heart just feels the music. It's indescribable, but you know, I think it's well worth the money-but I wouldn't know, because I just got a letter yesterday about how my aunt and uncle will buy it for me for my birthday, today- just because I told them I liked it. I'm so happy, they are such great listeners! Buy it, and feel your heart sing in rhapsody and your eyes grow wide!

This is the best musical EVER!!! I listen to this soundtrak all of the time and still never tire of hearing it over and over. The music is brilliant as well as the lyrics. The music is enchanting-in a good way- and the words put you right in London or New York. I'm listening to it now and can't believe I'm at my computer typing!!!

I hate Sarah Brightman, she just has no ability to show emotion in her voice. But I love the rest of this cast. Even though I don't believe they are the best cast Phantom has had, this cast is much better then the movie with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler. Frankly whoever told Gerard Butler he could carry a tune was deaf, the same goes for Rossum.

I am only 11, and I have this soundtrack: it is my favorite CD out of my own collection of 82. I've loved this CD since I was 2; it's what got me into music in the first place. Even though I haven't seen the broadway show, I'll be SURE to see the remake on film in December!

I took a break from it for Les Mis, but then I listened to it again, and it is really the BEST! Michael Crawford is the *BEST* Phantom of all, I believe. Sarah Brightman is an awesome Christine-no comment on Raoul, ok¿(Hard to say when you're a devoted phan)

I have had a love for the phantom of the opera ever since I saw the trailer for the 2004 version and I have been hooked. The music and the way it is sung is by far the best out of all the musicals I have ever seen(4) I find myself huming the music all day long. This truly is a good CD worth your investment

I first fell in love with the 2004 movie, so I decied to get the orginal cast soundtrack. I love this CD! The music is beautiful and the cast is amazing! Sarah Brightman has such a pretty voice. She was an excellent Christine. Michael Crawford has the most amazing voice ever! It is so beautiful, enchanting, and magestic, you beleive that he actually is the Angel of Music. He just does so fabulously well as the Phantom. Every Phantom fan should get this CD!

I first saw the Phantom when I was six years old and it changed my life forever. It opened my eyes to all kinds of music and now being fifteen I am the only one in my school (other than teachers and girls) that likes the phantom. I didnt have the pleasure of seeing the original cast but my older sister did =( , But after listening to the whole thing through I close my eyes and its almost like im seeing the original cast. For anyone who is a phantom fan I wouldnt hesitate to buy this CD.
