More About This Book

Overview

Known only as Erik Costanzi to the patrons of the Teatro dell'Opera and immersed in the world of music, the Phantom of the Opera believes his demons have been laid to rest. When a fire breaks out in the Teatro, Erik is thought to have died in the blaze. But he wakes-without memory and without an identity-in the arms of his former lover, Lucianna Fiortino.

Given a chance to keep Erik to herself, Lucianna invents a fairy-tale past for him. She has him take the name of her dead husband, not realizing that she thus condemns him to live a fiction that spirals further and further out of control. Has Erik lost everything, including himself?

Yet Meg cannot accept that her husband has died. She knows that the stranger who watches in the wings and sends her roses must be Erik. But someone else watches over both Erik and Meg, waiting for another chance at revenge.

Only the Phantom can save them.

Book III in the Phoenix of the Opera series, The Phantom's Opera continues the story begun in The Phoenix of the Opera and Out of the Darkness: The Phantom's Journey.

    Who is this guy?

Ok, I loved the Phantom of the Opera, both the movie and Broadway show. So I thought I was getting a winner here with THE Phantom's Opera. Instead, I got a guy named Eric, AKA Phantom, who is an arrogant and selfish man. He is married to a woman named Meg. One night he tells his wife that when they where apart, he and his mistress had sex many, many times and it was great. And that his mistress was also very skillful as a lover, too. Now, his former lover is back in town and she wants him back. However, he wants Meg to know that her body is the only body he really wants or loves so, he saids, 'Forgive me Meg'. And she forgives him. 'THIS IS BEFORE HE LOSES HIS MEMORY'. Then he loses his memory and has sex with his former mistress, who tells Eric that he is HER husband, even though he can't remember her. He has sex with a couple of whores and with a man! When he gets his memory back he tells Meg about these little sexual encounters because HE feels bad about doing them. He saids to her,'Forgive me Meg', then he said something like, during this time I was thinking of you even though I couldn't remember you. Huh? And guess what? She forgives him!! Then he tells Meg that he can't be angry with his former mistress for what she had done to him and Meg, 'she was wrong. But she wasn't evil', Meg reminds him that she lied to him, took him away from her and their children for almost a year. 'Perhaps,' he replies,, 'But I can't hate her, Meg. Don't make me hate her.' Of course Meg forgives. By this time Meg has done ALOT of forgiving towards ERIC. I ended up hating both Eric and Meg. I would have respected Meg had she thrown Eric and his mask out the front door when he told her about his great affair with his mistress. I would have respected Meg if she would have valued herself and her heart by not continuously forgiven Eric's behavior. Yes, he lost his memory for a time but he was awful to her when he had his memory as well. I have always loved the Phantom character. This is the first time I prayed for his death.

    Brava, Sadie, brava!

Breathtaking! All I can say is that once again Sadie Montgomery has outdone herself in this tale of mystery, music and the Phantom! Beautifully written with stunning heartfelt emotion. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read it so all I will say is this is great addition to an already excellent series! I am saddened there is only one more to go!
