Very clear and wise ideas and practices for living a devout godly life and meditating. Very fun to read if you like ideas and concepts more than facts and stories. Written by Eastern Orthodox saints spanning over one thousand years, from the first millenium to the second, this book is a must read. It contains over 1500 pages of text, volumes 1-4, which are the only volumes translated to English so far. There is only one volume not translated: volume 5.

A TOC would be helpful... but that doesn't put any damper on what this is for a buck... 4 volumes of pure Orthodox Christian teaching...

Anyone who has ever heard of "The Jesus Prayer" or "The Way of a Pilgrim" will be intrigued by the contents of this ancient document written by Eastern Christians of long ago. While some of the vocabulary and imagery might be unfamiliar at first, it is well worth a good read.

Proof that true Christianity can penetrate all hearts. These writings can help make saints of sinners. Read and apply to the best of your ability.

Highly recommend for Orthodox Christians who have a spiritual Father who guides them or someone who understands what are the passions and the need for struggles against evil ones. St.Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain and St.Macarios of Corinth compiled the collection of texts from 4th to 15th centuries and first was published ln late 1700's and again in 1893 in Athens.

This is one of the most valuable and accessible spiritual texts in existence. If you are in need of guidance, for example in eliminating the passions or freeing yourself from worldly attachments and poisons such as anger, the instructions are here and they are clear. There a few very small technical problems such as the word "hock" substituted for "flock," but what can one expect for less than a dollar?
