Overview

As the most serious threat ever facing the galaxy now looms over them—weapons able to destroy stars—Calvin and his enterprising crew continue their mission to expose and eliminate the dark conspiracy that has taken root inside the Empire. Now a fugitive on the run, Calvin has no choice but to work alongside Raidan’s mysterious Organization. And accept help from the unlikeliest band of fair-weather friends, including a mysterious squad of Polarian soldiers, an ex-intelligence-operative from the Rotham Republic, and the ever elusive Tristan—whose truest motives are a closely guarded secret.

To make matters worse, Calvin is hunted mercilessly across the stars by Intel Wing’s top operative, Lafayette Nimoux, who is aided by a double-agent on Calvin’s own ship.

Meanwhile the sands of fortune are shifting within the Empire, upsetting the delicate political climate. Warships and civilian transports are vanishing without a trace and murders in the dark are going unnoticed. All eyes are fixed on Renora—a human colony that has been savagely attacked and thrown into civil war. The prime suspect behind the attack is none other than Princess Kalila Akira. All the dark signs are pointing to what could be the death of the Empire, and the end of human dominance in the galaxy."

You have to read the first one before this, its really not a stand alone. This is advanced fanfic, some of it is awkward , particularly the "love interest" side plot. Also, I was disapointed, no, exasperated that after 1600 pages (800 here, 800 the first book) theres no end in site. Theres also plot overload here, too many threads running at the same time lending less intrigue than confusion to the story. However, the space flight and battle scenes are great, and overall the story moves along briskly. I had a lot of fun reading both this book and the first one, theres a good writer developing here. Unfortunetly I just can't imagine going any further, especially if the next one is another 800 pages. Will you like these books? Probably, but be aware this is, as I said, fanfic. If this was published through a traditional publisher an editor would have waded in with a blue pencil. The autthor needs to keep at it though, theres talent rising here.

The 1st two books are excellent. Planning to start on the next one. This is a well written, entertaining scifi series. Minimal, easily ignored spelling typos. The characters and storyline suck you in and keep you turning the page to see what happens next, where and how the plot twists will take them. I Highly recommend the series but suggest you start with the 1st book

Reading this book after reading the first a while ago is like watching a good TV series, I can't wait for the next episode.  The plot gets deeper as you go and the main character, Calvin Cross, is thrust into positions that any leader would have nightmares about. This book shows how the crew of a ship interacts with amazing detail and reality.

disappointed in the fact that the story was dragged out for three books instead of being finished in one or two.

I am absolutly loving this series! I found the first book while randomly looking for free books on my nook, and i couldn't stop reading once i started. I have no idea why the first book was free ( because i would have gladly payed for it), but i'm grateful that it was, because thats how i found this awesome series! Im no book critic or anything close to it. But i love to read and i've seen my fair share of books. And this series is way up there on my list of favorites. The storyline is at a perfect tempo: not too rushed, and not to slow. It draws you in from the very beggining, giving you little clues, hints, and mystries that keep you reading and "on the edge of your seat". I am really looking forward to following this series and seeing how this story keeps going. Thank you to the author, for some amazing reads!

I have now read the first two books in this series "Phoenix Conspiracy" and "Phoenix Rising". I read the second book in a day and a half. Take that as a warning; don't start this book unless you have plenty of time to get wraped up in it. As the main character 'Calvin', (ship's captain and intelligence officer -- now regarded as rogue and on the run) deals with with his world turned upside down and inside out, tries to make sense of a landscape that now is painted in every concievable shade of gray, goes through one harrowing close call after another, tries to keep his multispecies crew from killing each other while at the same time seeks to uncover both a mole and a murderer in his crew he finally comes close to finding some answers to the mysterious conspiracy that is threatening to tear his beloved empire apart book two ends leaving me no!, no! it can't end here! Don't do that to me!
