Winsor, a former professional dancer who has taught numerous movie stars and professional athletes the Pilates method of body conditioning, has written a manual that will appeal to a wide audience. It addresses the needs of beginning, intermediate, and advanced users in a concise format that includes step-by-step instructions and more than 100 black-and-white photos. The Pilates method is effective because of the use of resistance, which can be increased through the use of an array of specially designed exercise machines. Winsor confines herself to discussing the Pilates mat routine, in which exercises are performed on a mat or floor, using only controlled movement to create resistance. This approach allows her to provide an excellent overview of the Pilates philosophy and methods. Following the exercises, Winsor (herself an asthma sufferer) suggests Pilates breathing techniques for asthmatics and those with neck and back injuries but emphasizes the neccessity of consulting a physician first. Finally, she tells readers how to find a qualified instructor. Recommended for all basic fitness collections as a great introduction.     WINSOR PILATES

    I have Mari Winsor's tape and am in love. I did not know there was a book, but I can not wait to receive it. I am a person who doesn't like to consistenly excercise. I'll start and after a month or so stop. Well I've been doing pilates for almost a year now. Winsor Pilates helps me to look forward to excercising. They are changing my body, strengthening, toning, better agility,flexibility. I love my abs I can see my stomach decreasing. I feel more toned and I look better in my clothes. I hate my butt but thanks to my pilates its toning and my butt and I have a better relationship;) I can do things with my body that I couldn't before. Some of the excercises look like something out of a circus and i thought oh no never. But I can do alot of them now and I can't wait until i get to the accelerated level. I feel more energized and month by month I can't wait to see the changes in my body and energy level. I lose lbs. even if I'm not trying, it just changes your metabolism. I love my pilates and people are tired of me talking about them! Pilates are great, Mari is so patient and its easy to follow her instructions on her tape. It is true after 10 work outs you see a difference. I normally do my pilates 3 times a week, sometimes more. I now have my sister doing pilates as well. Again I look forward to Mari's book.

    This is more than a workout, trust me!

    I am into my second week at the Beginner level and already I have noticed some changes! After the third session, I could feel some slight soreness in my thighs when I stood from a seated position. I can also do the movements a little easier and I definitely feel my stomach muscles flexing within my 'powerhouse'. But what I want to emphasize for other Beginners is that YOU CAN DO THIS! At first it will seem impossible and you will feel unsure of yourself, thinking that you are doing it wrong, but Winsor is right: 'Do not worry about doing something wrong. Just move through the routine...Just keep doing the movement...You must never stop a movement because you feel tht it is too difficult.' Following that advice is what made me return to the workout the second and third time instead of giving up. Am I glad I did! I now concentrate on the movements, making the transitions between each exercise as smooth as I can for now, trusting the process to work as she said it would. Food for thought: highlight the promises that explain in detail what this workout will do for your mind and body. They can be found on pages 5, 17, and 41. I do this Pilates mat work before I do anything else each day. I am praying and meditating the whole time and by the time I'm finished I feel relaxed and ready for the day. You will too!

    Great Beginner's Book

    Divided into sections for beginners, intermediate and advanced, the program is easy to follow. Descriptions of each excercise are detailed and well illustrated through photographs. I felt better immediately and achieved noticeable results in a very short time - envious friends ran to buy this book.
