Overview

It began as an after-hours project laid out on a card table in the Chicago apartment of Hugh Hefner, a young copywriter whose day job was promoting subscriptions to Children’s Activities magazine. It great into the most successful and controversial magazine of its time, a fixture on the cultural landscape, an institution as universal as Disney and Coca-Cola. Here is the spectacular story of PLAYBOY, told from the inside in never-before-revealed detail. From its very first issue in 1953, at the height of the “Ike Age,” PLAYBOY has been on the cutting edge of the socio-sexual revolution that changed the face of America, and this commemorative collector’s volume offers a kaleidoscopic look not only at the magazine but the society it has reflected and influenced for decades.

Simply put, this book contains a fifty year history of Playboy. The reader is given a behind-the-scenes glimpse of everything about the magazine and everything the magazine is about- the photography, the literature, the lifestyle, the stars, the music, the clubs and, of course, the women. The photos are as interesting and informative as they are beautiful. The text is a history of the growth of the magazine as well as an inside look at the motivation for some of the long standing traditions within the magazine. It is truly a Playboy lover's guidebook. One word of warning, though: this book does contain nudity. Your wife may not understand and you should keep it away from your children.

Top quality print and color. While I don't feel comfortable displaying on my coffee table, it is perhaps one of the nicest books I own in terms of appearance and interest.
