Terrific read. I felt like I was on a very fast-paced emotional roller-coaster. I so loved and related with the main character Jack Hopkins and -- much like the Red Badge of Courage -- often wonder how I would fare in the face of war, evil, hatred. Loved it.

Mr. Torres' first novel is a compelling, heart wrenching, often tear-jerking adventure that culminates in a larger than life climax, complete with larger than life, vivid, and most importantly, memorable characters. Jack Hopkins is the ideal slacker; preferring to spend his days sleeping and shooting hoops with the local neighborhood kids, but when his good fortune runs out he's thrust into the opportunity of a lifetime, and the life he never imagined. Along the way he meets memorable characters, runs into hilarious shenanigans, and discovers the true meaning of life. This is a definite must read. I look forward to Mr. Torres' writing career with great interest.
