These essays grew from a symposium at Princeton U. in 1998 held to honor the memory of K. Allin Luther. The epic 12th-century works of Nizami were composed during a period of cultural florescence, and celebrate themes of love, music, and the princely life. Themes of science, history, and the nature of language are also apparent: all are topics of the present group of papers, which contribute to our knowledge of the rich Seljuk civilization through pertinent analysis of its greatest poet.
