Overview

Civil unrest threatens to disrupt Pevana's yearly Summer Festival. The wealthy merchant class works with the reform-minded priests of the King's Theology to prepare for war in the south. Old Ways Temples burn. Priests harass citizens in the cobbled streets. For Donari Avedun, Prince of Pevana, it is not just a revel in ruins, but his city, his crown, perhaps even his life. To do nothing ensures losing even the semblance of power; to act risks open rebellion Donari knows he cannot win.

Donari overhears something during the duel of words in the poets' competition, a highlight of the Summer Festival. The duelling poets, Talyior Enmbron and Devyn Ambrose, risk their lives with their impassioned words while Donari realizes life is not always about winning, but rather doing what one must, regardless of the consequences.

Meet the Author

Mark Nelson is a career educator and for the last twenty-two years has been teaching composition and literature at a small high school located in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains in eastern Washington State. He is happily married to his best friend and fellow educator and together they have raised three beautiful daughters and one semi-retired cat. Words, music, food and parenting permeate his life and serve as a constant source for inspiration, challenge and reward. To temper such unremitting joy, Mark plays golf: an addiction that provides a healthy dose of humility.

A treasure for any lover of epic fantasy

What can be better than an epic fantasy full of romance, intrigue, and betrayal? One in which most of the battling is done with words. Poetry! For those of you who love the battling? There's that too. And steamy romance, and tender romance, and bawdy banter. Everything the world loves about epic fantasy without the tropes. Read it! Love it!
