All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
The Point! is the soundtrack to a cartoon feature originally aired on ABC TV in 1971. Especially at this stage of his career, Harry Nilsson was uniquely suited for writing and recording children's music, given his sweet melodicism and love of whimsy. As it happens, The Point! worked out better than anyone could have expected, not just because "Everything's Got 'Em," "Me and My Arrow," "Think About Your Troubles," and "Are You Sleeping?" are songs strong enough to have been on a proper Nilsson record. There's also an intangible quality to this record, a warmth and generosity that really wasn't on any of his other albums, quite possibly because his humor is never sardonic or reliant on in-jokes. It's gentle and loving, as is the music. The tale is fantastical enough to be of interest to children and the moral is strong enough to reassure them and their parents, but the songs and music are so strong that the album continues to be a source of wonder, even as those children become adults. [To the delight of all, The Point! was reissued on BMG Heritage records in 2002 featuring three bonus tracks.]

    Me and My Point!

This has to be one of my all time favorite albums! We had the album when we were kids that came with a picture book. We played that album over and over again! I was so happy when the CD was released. I have bought many copies for myself and for friends and family. This is a must-own CD!! Adults will love it, kids will love it, heck even your pets will love it. A story about a boy and his dog...Plus, the moral of the story is just so amazing. Love Harry Nilsson! What an amazing song writer he was!

A wonderfully creative and entertaining piece of genius.

Having listened enough over the years to have memorized the lyrics, and the readings, (which Harry did wonderfully--including the page turning) this is an old favorite of mine. I wonder often now if it wouldn't make a great short movie (perhaps CG). The movie is not as well done as the soundtrack, and deserves another shot. No one else but me had ever rented the video from my store. I am so pleased there are many others who agree with this relatively unknown and unheralded work. Great music, great message, lots of fun in the process! Very engaging.

    Forever relevant

I have the original album tucked away complete with the story book. After watching the tv special I went out and bought the album. Nothing since has had the feeling and emotion that I felt with this album. It is as relevant today, maybe more so, as it was then.

    Timeless Wisdom

I remember The Point! when it first aired. After all these years the melodies still echo in my mind. I am excited to share the music with my own children and wish I could find the film on VHS.

    Good, Long Memories

I remember seeing this movie when I was in the sixth grade. The artwork, tunes and story stuck with me well into adulthood. I spied a copy of the movie in VHS in a video store and bought all six copies and then went out & found this album on CD. I used them all (excluding my own copies) as gift to my children and siblings with children. I love it!!!!! jeff:P
