ISBN 0307127257 - You really can't go too far wrong with anything from Golden Books. Add the cute shapes of their Shaped Little Nugget Books and longtime favorite the Poky Little Puppy and it's a guaranteed hit. We start with Poky, who is brown and white, and follow along through his day, as he notices the blue sky, a green grasshopper and more. Eventually, it's time for bed and he snuggles under a quilt made of all the colors he's seen through the day. The illustrations by Jean Chandler are fantastic, with some detail but not enough to be overwhelming or to distract from the item the text is focused on. Sarah Price's text is simple, and she's created a nice rhyme that kids will learn almost faster than they'll learn their colors. The best part of all, of course, is that this book leads naturally to the 'big kid' book, The Poky Little Puppy, so it's a nice little tool for hooking them when they're too young to fight back!
