Editorial Reviews

Booknews
Aubrey (political science, Ohio U.) studies the evolution, actions, structure, and ideology of the Kenyan's women group Maendeleo Ya Wanawake. She recounts her disappointment at discovering, during her first field trip to Kenya in 1991, that the group was neither committed to women's progress nor grassroots development. She concludes that women in Southern Africa are used by a multiplicity of sources in a global patriarchal power structure, which the women are unlikely to change to a significant degree.
