Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

In his interviews and books, The Omnivore's Delight author Michael Pollan has often emphasized the importance of family meals, so perhaps it is not surprising that his extended family has now combined with a gathering of healthful recipes, cooking techniques, kitchen tips, shopping lists, and shortcut suggestions. Fresh, local ingredients and family feasts. (P.S. Michael Pollan himself furnishes a touching foreword about his brood and food.)

Publishers Weekly
09/15/2014
The women of the Pollan family collaborate in this collection of 100 recipes, offering three generations of kitchen wisdom and strategies for the return of the family table. Michael Pollan’s mother, Corky, and sisters, Lori, Tracy, and Dana, have assembled an “empowering book” and practical guide for home cooks struggling to make healthy and fulfilling sit-down family meals. Showcasing the very best Pollan family recipes, these fresh ideas help families achieve the “Common Pot”—a ideal dynamic marked by communal cooking, eating, and laughing together around the family table. Recipes are kid- and adult-friendly, made with easy-to-find store ingredients, require little experience, and are time-savers. Along with culinary terms, sage advice, and sections on home-made condiments, there are lists of essential utensils and pantry basics. They favor ingredients, such as simple grains and vegetables and common-sense cooking low in fat and processed foods. Meat, poultry, and seafood recipes abound, along with comforting soups and chiles, and meatless Monday dishes include dressed-up pasta and salads. Current Pollan kid-favorite desserts are featured, too. Each recipe page has market and pantry lists for cell-phone snapshots cooks take shopping. From dishes prepared by their mother to Grandpa Max’s love of fresh-grown ingredients and their continued family table tradition, the Pollans find inspiration devising a new routine for the family sit-down meal. Yummy recipes

Trying to find "safe" food is a challenge in today's supermarket. This is a wonderful guide. Although I am allergic to canola oil, it is easily substituted.

These are really delicious recipes with both great instructions

These are really delicious recipes with both great instructions for beginning cooks as well as sophisticated dishes for more experienced cooks.
I find the special sections very helpful and unique--Essential Utensils, Pollan Pantry, Sage Advice, Culinary ABC's and especially the market and Pantry list on each
recipe telling me exactly what ingredients I need from the store. The pictures of the dishes are mouth watering and the family shots are so fun.
This cookbook is awesome-- I definitely plan on giving this book to friends and family for Christmas!

I own hundreds of cookbooks, and I would have to say this is one of my absolute favorites!  The photography is gorgeous, but most of all, every recipe is delicious and wholesome.  Pollan Signature Salad, Chopped Italian Salad with Chicken Milanese, Smokey Sauteed Shrimp, Panfried Halibut with Chimichurri Sauce, Perfect Mariana Sauce (yes, it really is perfect),- everything I have made is destined to become a recipe I come back to over and over again.
