Overview

Hard rock, post-new wave (soon to become alternative rock), R&B, rap, adult contemporary, and full-on dance-pop are all part of The Pop Years: 1986-1987, another two-disc set from the Demon label that compiles U.K. Top 40 singles. There's no bias regarding genres or perceived coolness; as usual, the series provides an accurate reflection of what was popular at the time. Among the most successful songs here are Bangles' "Manic Monday," Europe's "The Final Countdown," Alison Moyet's "Is This Love?," Owen Paul's "My Favourite Waste of Time," and Run-D.M.C. with Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" -- all of which peaked in the Top Ten.
