From New York Times bestselling author of NOT WHAT SHE SEEMS...

Jane’s been in love with her best friend Lance since they were kids. Best friend, that is, until he ditched her for the more popular crowd. What’s a computer nerd doing spending time with jocks anyway?

When he asks her for help getting a date to the prom with the most popular girl in school she almost tells him to take a flying leap. But she’d be spending time with him, teaching him to dance and he’d be holding her...that sounded like heaven.

So she says yes.

But how much practice can her heart take?

The Practice Date is a novelette, 11,000 words, 50 pages in paperback.

Great Quick read for a road trip!!

When I read the synopsis I though this might be a good book
    and i was right! I loved it and was done with it in a half an hour. My parents said they never herd me so quiet in the car, It was that good. I hope you buy this!! I can't wait to read more by this author! :}

I'd say more like 3-1/2 but we'll round up.

It was a cute read but a bit too squeaky clean for me. I realize this is a teen read and some authors insist on going this route but darn and dang? Most teens don't talk that way and if they do they're not the ones romance novels get written about. Even the kissing was awkward. The use of tongue in a kiss is very sensual and yes teens use it. But not in this novel. Okay so you don't want to be explicit, but it even read weird I pictured two people just mushing their lips together and moving their heads. So unromantic, almost forced. With that said the rest of the premise was cute. Nice little feel good, quick easy read. Just don't wait for any major butterflies or sparks.

Wholesome YA Romance THE PRACTICE DATE by Victorine E. Lieske i

    Wholesome YA Romance

THE PRACTICE DATE by Victorine E. Lieske is true to it's classification-- a Young Adult Romance in many ways:
    ~ High school age characters
~ Sensuality level (wholesome) is appropriate for youthful readers
~ Language (wholesome) is appropriate for youthful readers
~ Concerns and thought processes are very much in harmony with the age of the characters

This novelette was a quick read with nice development through a single point of view (the heroine--Jane). Her confusion over her friend (our hero, Lance)'s behavior, motivation rings true to her maturity level/ age/ amount of information available to her. It was enjoyable watching the plot unfold through Jane's eyes. Jane's behavior is well motivated....and while she behaves foolishly (risking her own heart repeatedly), it's understandable and quite sweet. She can't help herself-- as the book description discloses, "Jane’s been in love with her best friend Lance since they were kids." It's painful for her to be the "practice date," but her reasons for going along with Lance's suggestion that Jane help him become the guy super popular Tiffany would say YES to (Prom invite) are believable.

Recommended to fans of YA novelette-length romances, selective readers who choose wholesome reads, readers who ARE young adults and adults alike. I have daughters this age....and I found it enjoyable. ~~Kristin

    Awww

This reminds me about dating in high school. Especially how awkward it can be when you are around someone that you have a crush on. I'm glad it had a perfect ending for Jane
