Overview

This seven-track EP was inspired by the bestselling book of the same name, in a joint venture between publisher Multnomah and ForeFront Records. As befits its literary counterpart, Prayer of Jabez Music is a peaceful collection of mellow and light AC pop; each track is a worship song performed as a duet by both new and familiar names from the contemporary Christian scene. Some of these combinations are a revelation. The Benjamin Gate's Adrienne Leisching is a lovely (and unlikely) partner for Erin O'Donnell, having made her name with the offbeat vocal stylings that characterize her alt-rock band. It's a delight to hear Margaret Becker's smoothly soulful voice again, here partnered with Sarah Sadler, and the pairing of Rebecca St. James with dcTalk's Michael Tait holds promise for future duets of the sort. A who's who of Christian songwriting penned the material for Jabez -- Reggie Hamm, Billy Sprague, and Scott Krippayne, to name a few. This is an easygoing, encouraging collection that should please both fans of the book and Jabez newbies.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stacia Proefrock
The hugely popular Prayer of Jabez is given a musical treatment here, with pleasant, if somewhat strange results. The passion of the artists who contribute to this album is evident in the music, which has a melancholy contemporary country feel on the surface, but there are also strong pop (and occasionally electronic) stylings underneath. Portions of the prayer surface in each of the seven tracks, with the bulk of it appearing in the second track, which is actually titled "Prayer of Jabez." Several of the tracks work well as CCM songs, especially "Be in Your Blessing," where the folky vocals echo the style of contemporary singer/songwriters. While the album might be a bit unusual stylistically, overall it creates a laid-back, reflective mood that does suit its subject matter.

Everyone should have a copy!!!....it is so inspiring, it makes the dullest day, saddest person become alive, hopeful, bright and happy. It makes the perfect gift, it was given to me by a friend at a sad time and it worked wonders for me. Now, I give it as a gift, it's just so wonderful, it has to be shared. I listen to it at least two times each day (sometimes more) as I am still trying to determine which is the best of the 7 songs......they are all so GREAT and well done, I don't know if I'll ever be able to tell. Thanks to all involved in the production, you have all been richly blessed by God and have clearly used those talents very, very well. To your distributors, big "thank you" too. To all - GREAT job!!!

this is an awesome album, due to the many talents of English producer John Hartley, ably co-produced by the Choir's own wunderkind Derri Daugherty. I didn't like the book, and haven't seen the movie, but the soundtrack is really life-changing. I wish John Hartley would reform his old duo Phil & John with Phil Babbley.
