In a major revision of her Ph.D. dissertation, Krips (U. of Pittsburgh) considers the heritage of the second half of the 20th century, and the childhood that was imagined by adults who wrote books for children during that time. She is particularly interested in how they are both concerned with bringing the past into the present. Britain's reckoning with the past, she argues, was anatomized in fiction written for children after the war, and selfhood found a symbol in the fictional child. Annotation c.
