This marvel of technology is the home of Ascension, an organisation who have successfully engineered a procedure that unlocks the full potential of the human brain. All Sallustrian citizens undergo mandatory testing at age 21 to determine their viability and, if they find themselves among the lucky few successful candidates, are permitted access to the floating utopia.

But Liz and Derek, two strangers thrust together on their 21st birthdays, are about to discover that the idyllic paradise comes with a cost, one that Ascension have neglected to publicise. What began as a day of celebration will end in a whirlwind of conspiracies and revelations that threaten to upend the very foundations of Sallustria forever.

The concept and storyline of this book is on a 12 year old level. Unfortunately, it is peppered with the F word and not suitable reading for a 12 year old. The story has virtual games and lots of computer usage -- not exactly my kind of tale to begin with.

The story is told from the viewpoint of the two min characters -- one chapter him, the next chapter her. This means lot and lots of duplicate telling. This might be okay, except for all the teenage angst -- way too childish for 21 year olds. This got old fast and was just boring. Really bogged down the tale.

Clean up the dialog and edit out about 300 pages of the angst and you might have a decent story for 12 year olds.
