Overview

Once wed to England's most notorious turncoat . . .

Lady Evelyn Renshaw can ignore the disgrace her former husband has brought down upon her. She can even disregard the accusations. But when her life is threatened because of his actions, she realizes a stiff upper lip won't be enough to keep her safe. So she hires a new footman powerful enough to protect her . . . only to find herself shamelessly intoxicated by his breathtaking masculinity.

Captain Sinjon Rutherford is no footman . . . but there are those who believe him a traitor. The only way to prove his innocence is by playing the part of elegant Lady Evelyn's servant in order to infiltrate her home and uncover the truth about her suspicious relations. Yet what seems at first an easy deception is anything but, once he meets his alluring new employer and discovers just how tempting a woman in charge can be . . .

Because sometimes passion hides in plain sight.

    Improbable, but a good read.

Lady Evelyn Renshaw has been ostracized by Society when her husband turned into a traitor. She has been going through the days as best she can while trying to avoid the interference of her sisters. Captain Sinjon Rutherford is in London trying to clear his name from the charges of treason and rape. When the Earl of Westlake offers to help Sinjon clear his name if Sinjon will spy on Evelyn as her footman, Sinjon accepts the offer. Of course the pair are attracted to one and start an affair despite the apparent differences in social status and the uncertainty as to Evelyn¿s role in her husband¿s treason. When the search for a missing French flag risks Evelyn¿s life, Sinjon has to reveal the truth, clear his name and protect Evelyn in order to assure their future. Although the characters overcome the impossible to be together, seeing how they come together does make for an interesting story.

    more from this reviewer

Haven¿t quite made up my mind about this one. It did pick up steam after a rather lengthy start, though.

Where is Lord Renshaw? Lady Evelyn Renshaw is disgraced by her missing husband’s treachery (a personal brute; a thief; a supporter of Napoleon); she's barely tolerated by the ton, and by her three silly, gossipy sisters as well. The arranged marriage to the cold Renshaw has greatly undermined her self worth. Watched day and night by the Crown and assorted French spies, the object of much malicious gossip, Evelyn nevertheless manages to keep her chin up. Attacked in the park, she is rescued by Capt. Sinjon Rutherford who is on his way to a duel. He’s in hiding and on the run for having been accused by Lord Creighton, his superior officer – a snake – of rape, theft, treason, but his honor as an officer and a gentleman comes to the fore as he routs Evelyn's attacker. Sinjin is also thwarted from keeping his appointment to duel Lord Creighton, by the British officers who are also in the park. And he is pressed into service for the Crown with their promise to let him prove his innocence of the crimes. Thus Sinjin finds himself seeking the position of a footman ("Sam Carr") to Lady Evelyn. Once we get beyond their many torrid love scenes, the real action takes place, and the story gets into gear.
