Great cookbook for little princess fans

My little girl loves all things pertaining to The Princess and the Frog since we saw it at the theater last winter and at the age of (almost) 5, she has developed an interest in helping out in the kitchen. So when she found this book on the shelf at Barnes and Noble, she lost her mind. I'll admit that I was skeptical. skeptical about whether she would really want to cook or just look at the pictures. and skeptical about the recipes. Those of you that have spent any time looking at kids' cookbooks probably already know that the recipes are usually kind of a gag. Literally. I was VERY pleasantly surprised, therefore, to discover that the recipes in the book are fantastic! They are all southern comfort foods that most people would actually want to eat. [Examples: Eggs in a Nest, Po' Boy Sandwiches, Red Beans and Rice, Mud Pie... Yum!]. All are simple enough for a small child to participate in the preparation of or for an older child to make on their own (with supervision of course!). In addition to character art from the movie, there is also a full-color, full-page picture of each dish to help kids see what the finished products are. And there are just enough recipes for variety without overwhelming little chefs: approximately 4 in each category of Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Drinks & Sides and Desserts. I was also pleasantly surprised that this book actually did inspire my daughter to cook! Even my son has joined the fun, Disney Princess theme notwithstanding. So far they have made breakfast, lunch and a smoothie from the recipes in Tiana's Cookbook and are actively planning what they want to make next. And again. these are recipes and foods that actually taste good - to adults and children alike. Now that's a winner! The Bottom Line: What a lovely surprise to pick up what I assumed would be an average hunk of Disney marketing junk and find that instead, I picked up one of the better children's cookbooks out there!
