Meet the Author

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

KA was most likely my favorite romance novelist. This book, along with a few other of her recent novels though, is subpar. The book almost seems like she began writing aimlessly with no set destination in mind. Parts of it are extremely drawn out and uninteresting with other parts being unnecessarily rushed. Very disappointed in the inconsistency of her recent novels. KA has become redundant in her character dialogue and would perhaps be more successful with better editing. I will give it one more novel before I completely eliminate her from my auto-purchase list.

Have read all of Kristen Ashley's books, and loved Frankie and Benny's story in The Promise. Especially love that she includes so many of my favorite characters from her other books. I always look forward to her books as she is one of my favorite romance authors. Hoping we'll get another book like Mystery Man, as it is still my favorite. If you haven't read her Man Series (Mystery Man, Motorcycle Man, Law Man, and Wild Man) or the Rock Chick series you really should. Knight was great too.

I enjoy KA and was really looking forward to this book. Unfortunately I feel like I connected more with the characters from previous books that made cameos (Vi/Cal, Luke Stark).

I was never really interested in this story since KA first mentioned the possibilty of their story. It was better than i expected but nothing i would reread like rock chicks, lady luck, viv and joe (cal), or motorcycle men series. It was ok nothing spectacular but waaayyyy better than the zara and ham story or even ham and lanie.

I was expecting more just because we have been waiting for this story for some time it was good don't get me wrong but a character like Benny I would have loved to see more

Her older story-lines are really good but now her new story-lines follow the same pattern... the characters are almost clones. Also, the similarities of dialogue between books has begun to annoy me. All men speak like Tarzan the ape man... it's ridiculous. "Broken Dove" was the last story-line that I enjoyed. This modern romance trend she has started does not cut it at all. This is really sad because I was a huge fan.

~Reviewed by SUZANNE & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Francesca Concetti is done with the Bianchi family and their unfair judgment of her, but after being shot protecting one of their own, their preconceptions are shattered and they start reevaluating their opinion. Especially Benny Bianchi. Benny is determined to show Franki how much she means to him and that despite having a complicated past, they can have something beautiful. I promise you, I don’t copy and paste my Kristen Ashley reviews, but how many times and how many ways can I say how much I love her books without sounding like I am repeating myself? But I can’t help it, Kristen Ashley has found a formula that I love and heroes and heroines that I can’t get enough of and all I am do it sit back and fall in love again.  It’s been a while since the last Burg books came out, so I loved the chance to get back in to that world and visit familiar characters like Joe and Vi and Feb and Colt, but also to delve into the dynamics of Franki and Benny. Like all Kristen Ashley heroes, Benny was hot, protective and alpha and with the added bonus of bring able to cook, how is a girl supposed to resist that? And Franki was spunky and fun, with a heat of gold. Together they were fantastic, with great chemistry, both in and out of the bedroom. If you are a Kristen Ashley fan then you definitely need to pick this book up, it won’t disappoint you, it is unashamed wish fulfillment that leaves you with a smile on your face and looking forward to Kristen Ashley’s next book. *ARC provided by author

I loved Frankie and Benny's story.  I don't know how anyone couldn't.  Frankie came from a dysfunctional family with a capital "D". She secretly longed for the love of family.  She had that for a while, when she was in her 20's and with Vinnie  but then VInnie dies and she is frozen out of the family she knew and loved.  In this book she gets that family back.  Benny, Vinnie's brother, finally realizes, after almost losing Frankie to GSW - 2 of them - that she has been the ONE all along. It wasn't Vinnie who should have been with her, but him. So he sets it right, I loved how there wasn't a lot of angst and bad guys in this story. I liked how it was Frankie and Benny and how they went "all in" with their relationship.  I just love KA - she is an amazing storyteller and I love how she develops her characters.   I had thought this was the last of The 'Burg series but was happy to find out that Merry will be getting a book. Can't wait!

This book ranks right up there with all the rest of the 'Burg series. I love Benny! Hot Italian wonderfulness all wrapped up in a great package. If you like this series, then this one will not disappoint. Might even be the best one. Read it and decide for yourself.

Love this author and have read every book she's written, some well more than once. The Promise was good, loved the dialogue and the old characters from her other books, So love Luke. The beginning was a little slow and the end rushed, but still a very good read.

I am a huge Kristen Ashley fan; she's an auto-buy for me. I've also re-red her books, sometimes more than once. I could not finish this one! It was so boring! I kept waiting for something to happen and it never did. Love The Will and waited impatiently for The Promise to come out. It didn't even seem like a KA book, except for the dialog. Sorry, Kit, not a fan of The Promise, but will eagerly wait for your next book. I know it will be a hit.

I have to agree with most others. All her books aound the same. The main characters are like clones. Especially the men. It's like reading the same book over again each time, with very few changes. I've liked some of the earlier stuff until this seemed to be the trend. I paid good money. I won't keep wasting it on her books. Wish I could get a refund on many of them. I'm done. s.

It had its moments, but it was anti-climactic for me. Different vibe than the other series of hers that I've read. Not much suspense drama, but more than enough relationship drama. Nice to see some characters come back from the Rock Chick series...

I enjoyed reading this one about Bennie & Frankie. One of the things I like about KA's stories is the way she brings the characters from earlier books back into the current one being read. I look forward to Merrie & Cheryls story. KA you rock! I have loved all your stories.

Felt like I’ve waited FOREVER for Frankie & Benny’s story since “At Peace” (another MUST read) where Frankie got shot while trying to save Vi (Violet) who belongs to Joe Callahan, Benny’s cousin. After the reality of almost losing Frankie, Benny is done holding back and lets his true feelings go and starts to make things right between him and Frankie. Which of course in the true Alpha world means he takes over and doesn’t take no for an answer which of course starts the fireworks because Frankie has other plans. YES!! Cameo appearance by Luke Stark (Rock chicks Revenge) and the voice of Lee Nightingale (Rock Chicks) YAY!! Absolutely a MUST read. Anxiously awaiting Jessica & Slade’s story.

“You were mine, even when you were his.”  Ugh. I struggled with this one. I mean, its KA! I love KA! But I did not love this one. I had high hopes for this book. We waited forever!!! And then… meh. “Every day is a new promise, Ben,” I told him sharply. “Every night I go to sleep knowin’ it’s a promise, every day I wake knowin’ in some way it’s gonna be fulfilled. And repeat. For…hopefully…ever.”  I really didn’t understand the 180 from At Peace to The Promise. They were spewing venom at each other in At Peace and then they were so easy and forgiving in this one. I can dig a girl who can forgive, I really can. Life is short and letting go of anger is a good way to ensure you enjoy more of what life has to offer, but this was a bit much. It happened a bit too quickly for me. I tried to rationalize it by putting myself in Frankie’s shoes and saying that she loved that family and they were the only family she really knew. That she was never angry with them for the way they treated her because she knew they needed an outlet for their pain… blah, blah, blah. In the end, I just couldn’t make it fit.  Frankie was not my favorite KA heroine. She was OK. But as I went back and forth with trying to understand her decisions I found myself seeing her as either a martyr or a victim and then just a PIA. She had redeeming qualities, for sure, but they were over shadowed by my confusion as to what happened after she was shot.  I loved Benny. I really did. Let’s face it, Kit writes a great alpha male. He was sexy and strong and sweet in all the right places. But alas, that did not carry the story for me. “Now go to sleep with the promise of me, and tomorrow I'll make certain I do somethin' to fulfill it.”  Running with the theme of the series, there was excellent action and excitement that took place, but I was bored more often than excited while reading. I hate that I felt this way, but I can’t help it. I just didn’t connect with the book or Frankie and Benny. Not like I usually do.  But we do get some Joe and Luke… and that made the entire book worth reading. ¿ “I have a question.” Stark looked to me. “Can you kick Chuck Norris’s ass?”  Luke Stark smiled, white and lazy.  My heart thumped.  “I strive to be Chuck Norris,” he replied.”  The ‘Burg is my favorite of all the Kristen Ashley series and I was super sad to find that this one was not doing it for me. It may just be too. There are a lot of great reviews for this book. Maybe I’ll come back to this one and love it after a reread. Who knows? 2.5 Stars and hoping to love the next one! Pair it with your favorite red wine and some mostaccioli.  ARC generously provided in exchange for an honest review.
