What a wonderful book!
Meet Anthony, the heir to the title of Duke of Aldbourne, as he grows up and falls in love with his childhood friend Marianne. After tragedy strikes and Marianne dies in a carriage accident,
Anthony descends into a life of debauchery and is considered a rake by the ton.
Unbeknownst to him, on the day that Marianne dies, a baby is born.
Flash forward 18 years... Lady Elizabeth Chatsworth is strolling down the street and he bumps into the now Duke of Aldbourne (Anthony)and he is shocked to see that
Lady Elizabeth has the very same strange birthmark that Marianne once had.
As they get to know each other, he can't help but think that Lady Elizabeth is his lost Marianne.
Read along as Anthony tries to court Lady Elizabeth and repeatedly embarrasses her with the ton. Will he be able to win her heart? Is she, in fact, his lost Marianne?
My only suggestion is to enjoy this book as you find out.

The Promise is a charming Regency romance with a paranormal twist. The Regency format is one I haven't read a lot of, but as the reader, I felt transported back to a more genteel time when manners and class distinctions were so important. The Lady Elizabeth is pursued by Anthony, the heir to the Duke of Albourne. She resists, believing he is betrothed to someone else; he pursues. Their relationship is explored at a leisurely pace such that as the reader, I felt as though I were sitting in my parlor with a tea set on my side table. (That is, if I had a parlor.) The story was pleasant to read, and the banter between the lady and the duke felt believable. The author Lauren Howard is very good at crafting her descriptions, making the story very vivid. This novel will not disappoint fans of the Regency era and romance readers alike. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
