Overview

Every 16-year old thinks they have the weight of the world on their shoulders. For Avery Kimball this was actually true…she just didn’t know it yet. Life for Avery was completely normal, attending school, hanging out with friends, and spending time with her family. Until the day she finds out that she and her four closest friends have a destiny that will take them far away from their comfortable and safe lives on Earth. Avery learns that she and her friends are actually a group of powerful warriors known as the Protectors, who were charged with protecting the planet of Orcatia, but were killed by the evil Emperor. To save their lives, their magical mentor sent them to Earth to be re-born. It is now their duty to return to the planet and life they have no memory of, and once again serve as its Protectors, fighting the very Emperor responsible for their deaths. Along the way, Avery must contend with battling malevolent creatures, her sometimes fragile relationships with her friends and fellow Protectors, her attraction to the mysterious King of Nightfell, and her own doubts and fears about who she truly is and who she can become.

The characters were AMAZING with so much personality I literally felt like they were all my friends by the time the book ended. And don't even get me started on Draven! Please, Please say we get to see more of him in the upcoming books!!!!! Loved this book, have recommended it to all of my friends and have already purchased books 2 and 3! Can't wait to read them!!

    Could have been better

There's little more disappointing than getting sucked into a good story that suffers from poor story-telling. This author could benefit from basic English grammar skills (someone is "used to" not "use to," proper use of homonyms & commas, and so on), as well as participation in creative writing groups where other aspiring writers can give helpful feedback. I would love to see more prosaic wording used, rather than cliched phrases. That works in conversation & is great for characters but the narrator should speak in a more thought-provoking & original voice. If the main characters are 16 years old, the narrator should not sound like a 16 year old (unless using 1st person POV).

Personally, although most descriptions were clear and easy to visualize, sometimes it felt like too much (the visuals associated with the opening fight scene were a bit gruesome for me, though it was well done). I would have preferred more story & less description of minor characters hair color, clothes, and such, and interior decorating which did little to progress the story.

I hesitate to recommend this book because if, like me, you are distracted by poor grammar & spelling, it will interfere with your enjoyment of the story. I think the author has potential but I don't think this is a particularly strong indication of that. I don't want to read the sequel because I suspect more of the same. Perhaps I can find something written later, after this author has gained some writing experience & has improved.

Boring! This book is all about fighting. The romance doesn't even develop at all! The king doesn't even come into the book until the last 30 pages.
It end abruptly the war doesn't even really begin. Reminds me a of a short version of lord of the rings

    Tamaki

This is a great book and i've barely been able to put it down since i got it. The great thing about this book is that it involves five girls with great personalities who are training to become warriors that have the strength of ten men and each has thier own special ability. One the element of earth, two the element of water, three the element of air, four the element if fire, and five the element of energy. This book is has a ton of great moments and you will never forget it.

    Good read

I am really liking this series, I'd say it's good for anyone from teens to seniors! My only problem with it is this-- the books just suddenly and abruptly end! They are NOT seperate books unto themselves... they end nearly mid-sentence! So you really have no choice but to buy the next book. That said, I surely would have bought the next book anyway LOL!

    horrible

Spent way too much time describing small stuff that didnt even matter. Story progressed wayyyyyy too slow. Kept on reading unimportant details it was frustrating. The writing was decent but the plot developement was non existent up until the last 100 pages of the book. Recommend for people who are okay with a snails pace.
