For the first time ever, the best children's and young adult books of the year are now catalogued in one convenient review guide, the Publishers Weekly Children's Starred Reviews Annual. In a long tradition, Publishers Weekly bestows a red star on the books it considers outstanding. More than 350 reviews are contained in this compilation, and age recommendations accompany each review. Among the book reviews included are: "The Dark" by Lemony Snicket, illustrated by Jon Klassen; "My Brother's Book" by Maurice Sendak; "Poems to Learn by Heart" by Caroline Kennedy, illustrated by Jon J Muth; and "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell. Also included are Publishers Weekly's 50 best children's books of 2013.
The cover is an original illustration by Peter Brown, the award-winning author and illustrator of such notable picture books as "The Curious Garden," "Children Make Terrible Pets," "You Will Be My Friend!" and "Mr. Tiger Goes Wild." "Creepy Carrots!," which was illustrated by Brown and written by Aaron Reynolds, was named a 2013 Caldecott Honor book.
