About the Author

Alexander Pushkin (1799–1837) is considered Russia's greatest poet and, by many, the greatest Russian writer. The father of Russian literature, he first achieved fame for his long narrative poems similar to Lord Byron's. In the late 1820s, Pushkin turned to prose and produced a series of outstanding works, influencing all Russian writers who followed.
