At first I read "Day of the Dead" and thought this was good and decided to get more Karen Chance, so i downloaded "The Gauntlet" and obviously "The Queen's Witch". I thought that the gauntlet was a simple short story with a ending leaving me with wanting more. Turns out today as i started reading The Queen's Witch it had the same characters that left off maybe a couple days after The Gauntlet. So, if you are about to read this, go and download The Gauntlet first =]

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Being a fan of Karen Chance, I was thrilled to see her attempt writing historical fiction. Knowing that many of her supporting characters are "older", I can see this as an acceptable stepping stone and a good move to fleshing out those characters we know little about. Granted, this is a bit out of her element and some of the character details were very vague, but overall I was pleased and hope to see her continue to develop her "extras".

In the writers notes, it is mentioned why the story wasn't written in "Shakspearian" english. The laguage used in our 20th century was closer to what would have been spoken than what the author thinks was the language of the time. Shakspeare wrote in prose a sort of intimate type of poetry. Thee's and Thou's were used private and only for the beloved, not considered proper. So unbenknownst to the writer, the story was written in the proper language of the time and should be proud of the fun story that was written. Most entertaining.

I found this book intruging, but short. Of course that was what it supposed to be. It was way too fast and the descriptions were somewhat lacking. Not every end was tied up in the end. I would like to know what the whole point was. Hardly deserves three stars.

What I enjoyed most was the history of the jewels and jewelry. Overall a delightful short story, with intriguing characters. I'm reading more of Karen Chance.

This novella is a quick, "mindless" read. The story takes place in Elizabethan England, with witches and vampires. The main character is sassy and smart. There's even a hint of romance! For a novella, the story is well-developed, or at least developed enough for me to follow the story and stay "in it" to the end. It held my interest. If you have a bit of free time, go for "The Queen's Witch."

I was very unimpressed with this book. It was very short and it was on the free list, so... Either way I still don't think it was worth it.

After reading The Gauntlet, this continues the witches' story. It is a good story about a vampire working for the Queen who needs a knowlegeable witch to assist her.

Sort of a fantasy historical adventure. Not a genre I'm familiar with but not bad.

It's a great follow-up to "The Gauntlet." I wish it were longer; Chance is an excellent storyteller. Enjoy!
